im building an antenna that at it feed will have 200 ohms impedance i was going to add a 4:1 bulan here but it has to be able to handle high power.(the delima) the ones i have construction data on are only rated for legal limit power and he would surely cook this as the amp is capable of many times this. i know thats more than anyone needs to run (no arguements here)but if i build something for someone i want it to last and not fail as this starts bad word of mouth. anyone know how to construct one that will handle 5-7kw? ya i know tell me about it! i thought to up scale it bigger ferite core thicker wire ect. but thought id see if anyone had any experiance in this matter before i tryed. |

well i be..... no one knows. bullet, you are barking up the wrong tree... these mud ducks dont know diddly squat. if they did they wouldnt be on here 24/7 they'd be on the air! ducks will be ducks.... come on taz, im sure you with all your borrowed knowlege must have the fix on this one.hehehehaw. forget the 200 ohms stuff and run a moonraker with a rejection kit it blast your creation off the air! ducks! |

bullet, i'm not sure that i can follow duck hunters last act. his infinite amount of knowledge on building 5-7kw 4:1 baluns still has me in awe. if his plans don't work out, i can only suggest that you go to Radio Works they don't have a 5-7kw 4:1 listed, but you can email jim@radioworks.com he may be able to help you on this.

i would like to see a real range test of a moonraker with/without a rejection kit the few 1 or 2 reflector range tests ive seen show adding another director buys you more.... bruce |

I'n my neck of the woods dousche hunter's diagnosis would be (L.P.S or L.D.S)it stems from the need to feel superior to everyone else around him by putting others down.I'm not a carpenter,but i think i just hit the nail right on the head. |

Heres somthing somone wrote about the moonraker and rejection kits. Important Note For Moonraker,Shooting Star, PDL2 Etc. Users I was kicking around the idea where to put this note for Moonraker users. One of the main things I wanted to accomplish with this web page was dispel common misconception. One of the biggest I see involves the Moonraker 4. Most operators think they can hop up their (hot-rod if you will) antennas like you can a Chevy Camaro (an American muscle car). Take my advice, you can not hop up a Moonraker (or most antennas) by by adding stuff on it (except for adding more director elements on beams). Most people come up with ideas to make money! The absolute worst mistake you can make on your Moonraker is adding the "rejection" kit. shows the Moonraker 4 with the "rejection" wire in place. "Rejection" Kit. This kit adds extra wires to the reflector element. Read text for explanation why this is VERY BAD. If you have been reading along (I hope you have) you already have a good idea how a beam antenna works. We said in the "Yagi" section that beams operate by utilizing different element lengths and spacings to achieve a directional effect. Also, you should remember that Reflector elements are 5% longer (which in the case of the quad - each side is 2 1/2%) than the driven element. The director elements are 5 % shorter than the driven element. What have you just done by adding those smaller wires? You have made that element into a DIRECTOR element (because they are shorter than the driven element)! Talk about confusion for the beam, you have a reflector and a director mounted on the same element. Friends, this will result in a lower gain, F/S and F/B ratio. Some people swear by these things...unfornately it is a rip-off. Any Antenna Engineer could tell you this. If you have it on your beam, I seriously suggest you remove it. It's snake oil!

The only baluns I could find that handle more than 1500 PEP are the following... W2AU Ferrite 4:1 Baluns handle 2KW PEP Centaur Electronics 4:1 Balun handles 3KW SSB Haven't seen any that will handle 5K though. Steve Tech181 Tech181@copperelectronics.com |

bruce, i thought about coax like 9913f but wasnt sure as the ones ive got construction data on used a dual wire around a 3/8ths core. were can i see the construction of a hygain 4:1? also thanks for the site good stuff. ss8541, yes old duck is a hard act to follow all right. thats a nice site as well, lots of good stuff. if i cant figure anything out, i might have to have it built. thanks bullet |

hygain on the 6 meter beam used coax it worked VERY well 4:1 i ran 1kw and never had a problem |

i dont think im going to find one made. it will most likely have to be homemade or custom made.ive been looking and cant find anything that big either. how's that highgain 4:1 made. |

i found some big-uns out thier but some are very spendy. and i was sort of on track with my thinking they are mostly up scaled versions of the norm. thanks for the help bullet. |
