I drive a truck which is a 2002 International. The mechanic at the company I drive for told me not to put a leniar/amp in the truck because it will/may damage the electical sytem.
I have used a Cobra 29 LTD now for approx 17 years. It is still a great radio and I recieve compliments on it almopst everyday.
I'm ready to up-grade and have ordered a Galaxy 73, Texas Star 350 HDV, Wison 5000 atennae, and coax.
I have asked a few techs if the amp can be installed without damage and they have all assured me that it can be done without damage to the trucks electrical.
My question is for you C.B. guru's that know this stuff.
Can it be done?
I know nothing about these things except when you key the mike it's suppose to talk.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

A Texas star 350 will not damage that. Once you get around 600 or more it can really mess them up.
Anyone else have opinions? |

If you run your power wire directly to the battery or a 12 volt source before it hits the fuse box(some vehicles, probebly including big trucks have second positive battery post for access) you should not have any problems. I think the problem with linears in computers( I am assuming is for travel ie; milage,odometer, trip, etc...) is the RF shielding. In other words, RF emitting from the amp itself interupting the computer. Keep the amp as far away from your computer as posible. Some TS amp have an optional remote to turn the unit off and on. You may want to concider this if it becomes a problem. If it is not your truck, I would try it and see how it works. If it breaks, take it out. The truck should be under warranty. a friend of mine had a geo metro and every time he keyed up his 200 watt liner the motor died... we laugh our self silly.. mark was not amused.... that thing had a 3 banger motor |

I run a XF600HD, 6pl, that's been ab biased, pulls quite a bit of juice in a 2001 660 Volvo Detroit engine with no problems at all. I'm running a 6900FTB to drive it. I've run 4ga direct to the batteries, + and -. I've also grounded the amp to the seat bolts and run a strap from the bolt underneath to the frame as well. Hope this helps a little. |

What always scares me about running power in an automobile with airbags is that somehow it will trigger the bag at an inopportune moment. I have the equipment to put a world class output system in my car, but I'm just skeered..... |

Gents I have run up to 400 watts in my Dodge and have not had any trouble with the puter. I wouldn!t try any higher because it has been suggested that I leave well enough alone. My point being I haven!t had any problems. I am using a boomer for AM and CMI for ssb. Take care and enjoy. |

The biggest problem in big rigs is stray RF from poor grounding. Not only the amp negative wire and chassis but the antenna too.
The antenna needs a grounded counterpoise or "launchpad". If your mirror assembly isn't making sufficient continuity to the body, then body to frame, the antenna will "look for" anything metallic to use as it's launchpad. Often this means electrical wiring hence the speedo and tach going haywire and can get into the electronic fuel firing as well. |
