HEY PEOPLE I am going to set up a base station and want a good antenna. I like the MACO but do not like the looks my neighbors will give it. I am thinking of the ARMY STICK. I have heard good and bad about this antenna. Please let me know what you think? THANKS BIG BIRD |

Thanks Taz - But I do not want a SPLATTER STICK... I know that the Maco and the ARMY STICK do not cause as much TVI as the Antron Products.. |

do not worry about what the neighbors think...do THEY go " out of their way to please YOU " ? ( no )...I use the MACO v 5/8 and it beats an ANTRON 99 hands down...better recieve..lower swr through wider band..metal is better than fiberglass..put up which ever one you want. |

I like the Maco better all around than the others for omni's but your choice. They all will TX and RX fairly well. |

True, the antron is a splatter stick. Take a small beam. Even the smallest beam is better than the best omni directional |

yes but its directional and you cant turn it right when you want to. Of corse its a good idea if you dont want to be found |

Thanks for the info. I am renting a house and it took me days to get permision to put up a small antenna. I told them it looked like a flagpole so I guess the Maco is out of the question. Why is the IMAX so good. I know so many people that have the 99 and they says it bleeds like crazy even with the GPK. I have a friend that has a Army Stick and talks all day with a Dave Made 2 Pill and has no problems with bleedover. That is why I might get the Big Army Stick. THANKS BB |

"Splatter" is a result of (a.) overmodulation of a transmitted signal and/ or (b.) poor receiver selectivity. A properly modulated signal will usually not splatter or bleedover, no matter what the power level or the antenna type, provided the transmitter is properly aligned per spec's. Nevertheless, if someone is running 1KW plus, and your receiver is 30 ft. away with poor filtering circuits, you are going to hear bleedover. That's the way RF is. It's not very forgiving of poor design charcteristics or poor operating practice. |

Lou your SOOO right this is why i try to reason with people on tinkering with the radios. its too bad that spectrum analizers are so expensive maby people would think thinks out better if they could look at what there radio looked like and what the other stations had to lissen too. Not all mods are bad some realy do make a radio sound better but the ones i heard like the control carrer effect of swinging 1-45 watts is at best a throw back to the mid 60's and the days of the old screen modulated radios like the senica and even the drake T-4 transmitters. As for selectivity the channel guards work wonders in most radios but can cause problems in others. RF is a finite idem you cannot make it do what YOU want it to do for 60+ years many GOOD books have been printed on RF Willam Orr, The ARRL and RSGB handbooks are very good sourses of information wrote for people like us who are not rocket wizerds Guys i catch hell for preaching GOOD engineering guidelines when tearing into that well thought out radio you just payed good money for THINK are you smarter than the people who built it? bruce |

Lou, good point. MY NEIGHBORS T.V. HAS NO FRONT END FILTERING WHAT SO EVER AND HE IS ON RABBIT EARS! What do I do then? NOTHING CAN BE DONE! AND THATS ACCORDING TO THE LAW! Let me explain: 1. All electronics must accept interference. 2. If your station complies with all fcc rules and regulations and are still affecting electronics you can still operate your station. Those two laws Hide alot of people! I run a low pass filter (DRAKE) and when he had cable he was fine. now he gots rabbit ear antennas and i bleed on his t.v. like crazy! And if you blow up his t.v. he cant do anything about criminal damage because the fcc law (1.) that I wrote above protects me from that! My neighbor is going to suffer the wrath of the TAZ! p.s. im not yelling at you just yelling. |

Taz: I understand your frustration and you are probably 100% right as far as FCC rules go. Before you fight this battle, decide if this is something you want to put yourself through. First of all, in this day and age, ANYBODY can and will sue someone in civil court. In which case, unless you have a relative that's an attorney and willing to work pro bono, you'll have to represnt yourself in court. If you're 14, your parent or guardian is going to get hauled into court to stand at your side. You'll have to articulate your case and hope you can convince the judge your not at fault. If you win - great. If not, get out your checkbook. And don't think the FCC will come riding in like the cavalry to rescue you. The FCC cares about one thing - $$$$$. Unless you're GTE, Sprint, or one of the BIG telecom companies paying millions of dollars for an FCC license, they consider the CB band as more trouble than it's worth. Who do you think get's special attention - two people fighting over interference in a free, unlicensed radio service that generates no income for the gov't, or some cellular company with political clout and stacks of money to pay for licenses? It's cold, cruel world out there. |

Taz, No offense intended. My friendly point is that whenever things get a little tight on the board or in something you are explaining happened to you, as soon as you get pinched or feel you are being victimized, you pull out the 'I'm only 14' card. Like my name implies, 14 is no excuse. If things get tight, simply say 'I messed up' or 'I made a mistake' or 'I jumped to a conclusion' instead of 'I'm ONLY 14!!!!!'. In order to gain the respect of your peers (in this case, other people on the air and the forums), you have to play the part of a peer and not dive into the '14 excuse'. Personally I'm glad to see your enthusiasm and participation in the conversations. Sometimes you come up with something really hot! Remember, this board is filled with everyone of all ages, some younger than you, most probably older. You don't see anyone else jumping to the age card. Not even those younger than you. This may be the best advice anyone has ever given you: Take responsibility for your own actions and your own words based on your decisions, do not use anything including age, I.Q., money or health as an excuse for your actions. People will respect you for who you are and not think of you as someone who relies on a handicap or excuses for justifying errors in judgement. |
