THIS IS FREAKY, BEACON ON CHANNEL 14 AT 1:55AM ARIZONA TIME.
ITS AT 3 1/2 S UNITS AND GOING BEEP BEEP AND SO ON SWINGING BACKWARDS TO 3 S UNITS
ONE HIGH TONE AND ONE LOW TONE.
IT MIGHT BE HAMCBERS, DID ANYONE HEAR IT?

Hello Taz.
What you heard was most likely a garage door opener or one of those car alarms that 'pages' the owner if it goes off.
The AOH beacon sends Morse code tones at 7 words per minute. It would be: . - --- .... if you can picture this as tones...
Some people reporting DX reception of AOH say it is easier to hear through the skip if you switch your receiver to SSB mode and listen for the audio pitch change in the skip. This seemed to work well when I was on the road traveling and listening for AOH myself.

I live in Boise, Idaho.
I hear it all the time myself at that hour. That is not a garage door opener. It really sounds to me like a homing beacon, or possibly a locator beacon used by some groups to locate wildlife or whales etc. I used to be involved with a group that collared and tracked Wolves etc. This tone really resembles that. We would use directional finders to home in on the target in question. with conditions just right, yes. it is highly possible we are picking this up. Although it is usually higher freaks that we used, There are instances where certain freaks were utilized that may have dipped into the 26-27 spectrum. These freaks were sometimes used by us because "NORMAL" CB'ers used to have locked clarifiers and couldn't go there anyway. I hope that may answer your question. 73's from Cuddlebear Base. |

there are lots of oilfield/transportation/utility transponders that operate on the "A" channels, .045, .095, .145, .195 |

Well it is a memory keyer It should be .-. --- -... .. -.. Usally 1 watt from a homebrew fed into a 250 foot wire with a wire tiner. I have several xtals that I can use. |

Now that I think about it a bit, if there was skip rolling in and the beacon was mixing with it, it might sound like '2 tones'.
Did the lower of the 2 tones sound like the 'dit dah , dah dah dah , dit dit dit dit' that AOH sends? There is a 2 second delay between code groups. |
