Hi everyone. This is my first post, and I am really enjoying this forum. I am looking for a no frills radio, with no bells or whistles. What would be a fairly durable radio to buy? I was thinking about a Cobra 25LTD Classic or maybe a Uniden PC66 (is the 68 the replacement?) I had a Cobra 25LTD Classic several years ago, and was very happy with it, but it was stolen. I do not care at all about mods. of any kind, so I don't really need a Superstar, Galaxy, or Connex type of radio. What is a good overall radio to purchase from $75 to $100? |

Mayror513, Uniden or Cobra. They are both very good radios. They work well and are very durable. I owned a few off them and was happy with them.Never had a problem with them. (Just one mans opion) 431 |

Cobras used to be really good radios but now ????? For just a standard 40 channel radio I would reccomend a Uniden or a Texas Ranger both are really good radios and can be modified in the future if you want. |

I agree with bullseye the newest cobras with the sound tracker feature are crap I have owned the 148 and the 29 the 29 is ok but I never use the sound tracker, If you can get a uniden 68 or 78 either xl or ltw they are very good radio's and can be modified in the future as Bullseye said they are a very very reliable cb radio for the money and talk very good too. |

Uniden PC68XL. A basic tune will make it sound alot better to those who listen to you as well as how far you can talk to them. |

Just for kicks if you can afford it get a radio with the WX bands. It sounds odd but I have a Texas Ranger mod.121 I think I put in the truck when I go hunting or fishing. The WX actually works quite well and can be handy to have for outdoor endeavors. |

Thanks everyone for your input! It is really appreciated. I am just starting to get back into the C.B. hobby. I first started in the hobby back in 1989 with a President P400 and an Archer Crossbow antenna (please don't flame me because I chose a Radio Shack base antenna, haha. I guess I didn't know any better..). The best I can remember, the skip was rolling almost everyday back then. The President P400 has served me very well, at least. I remember that I put in an Expo 100 channel kit for it. These are pretty good kits if you only want 80 extra channels. I finally got my amateur license in 1995 with a technicians license, and whenever the skip is rolling, which is fairly rare, I enjoy USB on 6 meters with an FT-100 Yaesu. I have met a bunch of fine people over the years on C.B. and on this forum. Most of the CBers I have run into, have gone out of their way to help you out. I have just ordered a catalog from Copper Electronics, and plan to order a Uniden 68 in the near future. Thanks a bunch. Adam Mayor (my dad's old handle) KC5QFE |

Stay away from Cobra specially the Nightwatch and soundcrapper models. For less money and better quality stick with Uniden,,just my opinion. |
