Does anyone know why Astatic has stopped making Desktop Microphones? (Silver Eagle, Night Eagle, D104, etc.)I remember hearing something about it, wasn't sure :-) Thanks! |

I don't know why...but I do suggest to anyone who doesn't own one and wants to to grab one off E-bay now. The prices are steadily clmbing... |

No longer profitable to us. The machine used to make the bases was made in the 30s and is nolonger working well enough. A new machine would cost far too much. We are sorry that it has come to this but with declining sales we could do nothimg else, We will continue to offer any support we can at WWW.Astatic.com |

Yes there is not enough sales to keep the d-104 going just think how many used ones are out there
I dont think they did this rashly the d-104 is so outdated that it has problems working with most new ham gear bad move not to allow the preamp to be switchable in/out and a 1 meg ohm crystal doesnt come close to the moderen input of 600 or so ohms... ive got 2 of them one a final edition when i get my AM station back on im going to use one of them.... history just like the tube and 33 1/3 records |

Thr Ehco max was just one small part of the Astatic line. Far fewer 2000s sales were made than we had figured on more. These sales were not enough to keep that part of the line going so with regrets we had to close the entire line. I have D104s from the 30s to the last Silver Eagle made over 200 in all. |

Thank you for all the information :-) And you certainly are right, Sofkow, there's tons of Astatic microphones on Ebay increasing in price.
I'll be sure to keep my Silver Eagle extra shiny to cherish it for years to come! |

Dont use any cleaner with amonia in itit will eat the finish, also dont try to wax them wont work. The best way to clean them is with a damp soft clothdistilled water and dry with a clean dry cloth. Dont rub wipe |

Had the Echomax been inline in price with other desk echo mikes they may have sold much more. This is where cost of production may play a role, but the CB buying public will buy a quality echo desk mike for a fair price ($70-90 retail).
The general retail was over $125 which stunted sales, just as RF Limited's "Adonis" mike with the "optional" echo and graphic EQ. I would love to have one but can't seem to part with $180 (dealer) to buy it hoping it might sound good.
Keep in mind that CB sales in general have slouched over the past three years and that's about how long the EM2000 has been around (give or take....my memory...getting old ;).
The Mobile max was a great idea also, just prone to RF infiltration and that stunted sales there.
I think (who am I but a CB nut) the EM2000 should still be in production, as well as a handheld version of it. Sure, might not sell alot right now, but not much of anything is selling alot right now either. Ask the Valor accountants how GP has been the last 3 yrs compared to the 10yrs prior.

YEP, This is one of those times when the thing I've amassed (Hoarded) in the ole "radio closet" start making the chi-ching cash register sound. I have 4 1104C, well 1 for parts. |
