i have an eagle tomohawk base/mobile radio that i bought about 2 years ago from a friend of mine that had already had the freq mods done on it. my problem is the lights in the all the displays ex:meters and all lights behind lcd display are very dim most of the time even when the dimmer switch was set on the bright or high setting and sometimes when transmitting or even when just turned on the lights also flicker by themself . another friend of mine that does some repairs on radios said to check and be sure that the screws on the circuit board that the dimmer switch and lcd display are on to ensure a good ground and i checked the fuse to see if it was causing a lack of adequate power to the radio but there was no problem with the fuse so i am clueless .someone please help me . just as an update to this message today i turned it on and all my lights burned out and also if i turn the channel knob to the right it wont change the channel and 2 of my memory presets dont work |

I will buy the radio from you if you want to get rid if it. The things you are talking about are only minor, and I have fixed them on mine. My Tomahawk has been a very good radio for me. It has been sent to a backup roll since I got my Melaka. Email me if you want to sell it. |

If you like it then keep it by all means.. My tech hates those radios along with the Cherokee series of bases. says they are so cheaply made its unreal. He will not even work on them because of their inherent problems they have from time to time.. Ah well. LOL. |

HEY RCI2990, "or anyone else who wishes to comment" I was thinking of getting one of these or the other "name" radios. What about the Dragon ss-497 or the Prostar 497? Are they all exactly the same? I know the 10 meter versions of these Cherokees have an off set for repeater use. All they all of the same quality level? Thanks in advance! |

Well each to his own. I love my Tomahawk. I have had 0 probs with it except for a few lights going out. A M FM SSB 25-30 mhz 20 watts tuned can't beat it for the price, im my opion . |
