Hi, I am using RG-213 and want to know if this LMR-400 is any better. I use about 50' of coax. How much does it cost? Will it help with TVI problems? I am using a A-99 splatter stick. THANKS - Big R |

try this take 4 99 inch long peaces of wire attach them at the feed point for your a-99 droop them back down the coax ( this is a crude declouping sleve) and check your tvi see if that helps... 213 is good coax you may need to choke off that a-99 somehow |

Big R, Bruce is right, LMR 400 is un-noticeably better, not worth the price at 27 megahertz. Do you have groundplane kit on your antron? If not something like Bruce said or a coil of coax at the base of your antenna may help. Randy |

Thanks for all the info. I do not have a GP on the antenna. I was thinking of that or I have seen post on this forum that say the Maco 5/8 is a great antenna and is known for less TVI/RFI. I might just get the Maco and give my friend the A-99 that wants to get into radio.. THANKS AGAIN |

Taz their all good take your choice times, belden any name brand now at 446.00 well that's diffrent. Losses at CB are small even with RADIO-SHACK i run it and have measured per 100 foot about 3db not bad, not great i used 213 coax years ago for my moonbounce antenna aray on 144 mhz it is as good as anything... and fairly cheep. |

Hello folks, Belden makes an equivalent to LMR 400, RF 400. Harbour cable, a really top notch Mfr. of coax makes a LMR type cable too. I don't know if you got your coax yet Taz, but if you or anyone else is interested, email me and I will tell you how to get some more prices, with or without connectors. Take Care, Randy |

I've been checking Ham boards etc about cable. Belden 9913 even though very low loss has problems with its Garden hose construction. They also have been having problems with the newer foam center "f" version. On the LMR 400 copper clad aluminum they are having problems with High power installations. it seems that the slightest nick when stripping the cable for connector ends is supposed to be causing heat problems leeding to catastrophic failure of the aluminum center. so far the best cable I've come across in my "research" is rf-9913. It has the lowest loss below 50mhz, uses the standard pl-259, is very well shielded and uses a 9.5 awg copper conductor. you can check out the specks yourself @ http://www.davisrf.com they are the "designer" of the Buryflex coax cable and push that brand but if you check you can see in their charts that rf-9913 is less lossy at a good price which they would also be happy to sell. now if I can only find a source for a new Sigma4 2nd choice easier to find - imax2000

The BuryFlex is also good stuff. You won't be able to tell the loss difference on HF freq.s and has the best outter jacket I've seen.It also takes some pretty sharp bends with no problem if you want to use it in a mobile set up. |

I am running a solid 125 ft section of DavisRF buryflex I purchased about 1 month ago. Real good stuff, double shielded, great braid coverage, etc, at a good price. Ham sites rated it well. However, watch out for other manufactures who call their version "buryflex". Might not have the same tough outer jacket. |

Howdy, Harbour HPF400, I've seen it under 45 cents/ft. It is constructed the same as LMR 400. As for the failure at high power, 3300 watts @ 30 mhz is on par with that particular size coax. I beleive that when performance is so close it is time to compare prices. If you multiply 20 cents X 500 pieces the difference becomes substantial. However, 20 cents of savings per ft. times 100ft. is pretty nice too. Oh well, just some thoughts. I have to go make some more cables now, lunch is over. Znut
