Buck, lots of opinions but I just put up a Solarcon IMAX 2000 from Copper. I know there are better but running a barefoot President Licoln I talked to New Finland and Ontario Canada this sunday, and both Northern Iowa and Washington state last night on LSB. I live in Florida. For a omnidirectional antenna, not bad forsure. The review under the subscribers preview pretty much sold me. I don't have experiences with any of the others but it sure beats my older antenna for DX. Alsworld aka 799 North West Florida |

Check out the post titled "Imax200 or Army big stick" or something to that effect. It has a lot of opinions and ideas on it and will save space on the forum. |

For the money, I would buy the Imax 2000. No tuning, assembly is a breeze and vey durable. And you can put it just about anywhere! |

My brother has the IMAX 2000 and works Europe and Africa with his barefoot Cobra 142 GTL. I have a Solarcon A99 with the ground plane kit and I was working Brazil last evening. There is better out there, but for ease of installation and durability plus low cost, either one of these antennas will serve you well. 73 Ed. |

The Sigma 4 is awesome! I have one plus i used to have a sigma 4 look alike too. Both great antennas. They are a bit of a job to put together and install but well worth the hassle. Much better than a I max 2000 and a A 99!!!!! |

Hey guys, talking skip is no test for a station or antenna, its all mother nature, if you don't believe, talk long distant with her. A better test is talking to someone 40-50 miles down the road. I know, that doesn't sound as good as working an overseas station, but it takes a better station to talk 50 miles than talking skip. Most times when its running right, you can talk it out of a barefoot mobile. |

90 or 100 miles groundwave talking is real good for a groundplane antenna. About 150 to 200 has been about the limit I remember, and that was on a high beam on high ground. Higher is better. Back in the 'good ol days' of CB, I've talked to several people in airplanes, you wouldn't belived the range of a CB at that height. I remember talking to one guy, he was flying at 30,000 feet or something like that, he was over Arkansas when I started talking to him, in a few minutes, he was talking to Oklahoma, and the last I heard him, he was leaving Oklahoma. Also, on rare occasions, there will be 'short skip' conditions, where you might talk to people in the next state, maybe 300 miles away, but that doesn't happen as often as the long skip. Then another weird condition will some nights give extra long groundwave talking, maybe 200 miles. That happened not long ago, I was on my home channel talking to some regulars, and kept hearing some weak stations, come to find out, they were on the back of my beam, up in Missouri, they stayed on the same freq, and that was the first time I had ever heard them in 10 years. That's the fun part of late night CB. |

In a word Maco, 5/8th's...In my case it out-performs both my A-99, and my Imax2k...Not alot of difference, but enough to be noticable...It is a little harder to assemble than the fiberglass screw together jobs, but worth the trouble for the few extra miles talk range...As far as skip I cant tell much difference between the Imax, and the Maco...If I could have just one antenna it would be the Maco...To be fair tho neither of the glass antennas were used with groundplane kits, so that could make difference.... |
