Heres my story.Boss bought a new pete.It came with a cobra cb,peterbilt antennas and a stereo.I removed the stock antennas, removed the stock coax from the back of the radio(its "stuffed" up in the headliner still).I installed my coax and my antenna using one of them universal antenna mounts. Now my stereo won't recieve unless im very close to a station. So is peterbilt also using the cb antennas for the stereo? is one of the cb antennas a "dummy" and hooked up to the stereo? Or are both antennas connected to the cb and the stereo with some sort of diode like thing so that the cb won't interfere with the stereo? Any ideas? thx. |

Errrrr uhhhhhh it's a 2002 long nose day cab.I guess I outa be shot since I don't know the model number huh.I know they had a hard time getting it.I guess freightliner now owns detroit diesel ,my boss wont get anything but series 60's and I hate freightshakers....I was told that it is a pete cab on a freightshaker frame.I'll look tomorrow and see what model it is before I get disowned or shot. I'm beginning to think that one antenna is hooked to the stereo with it's own coax and the other has it's own coax goin to the cb.So I need something/anything for a stereo antenna. I felt like a dork this afternoon when I opened the hood with pliars in hand to check the stereo antenna on the roof......and it wasn't there. Our other petes have them on the roof. |

I re-read my first message and it confused me.....let me redo it.I have not touched the stereo coax.I only removed the stock cb antennas(2),installed my rg58 to the cb and installed my cb antenna(1).I was expecting to see a stereo antenna on the roof and there isn't one. |

Chris your right one for the stereo and one for the cb. Volvo does that on some models. Most of the time drivers side antenna is cb. |

It's a 2002 #379.Ok heres what I done.I put the stock stuff back on,waddayaknow the stereo works! So I put my swr/rf meter inline at the dr.side antenna. It showed rf when I keyed the cb.Then I put the meter inline on the pass.side antenna. It didn't show any rf on that side when I keyed the cb. Just like flash said the dr.side is for the cb and the pass side is for the stereo.Weird! |

Weird is right, but thats Peterbuilt for ya. I drive a 385 daycab and had a heck of a time getting a ground for the cb ant. I was finally able to get a ground on the hand bar on the back of the cab. Since I drive a tanker I have been told that the back of the cab is the best place for cb ant. |

I havn't had any problems with my antenna.I'm running a hustler Hq-27 on my dr.side mirror.I really like it,it will cover alot(but not all) of the freq's in my 99.I can usually shoot skip and I've even stepped on some bigstrappers in the truckstops.....and I don't run a linier. |
