Who can recommend a tech that can be trusted.

I don't mind shipping all over everywhere, I just want one that will do what he says he'll do and do it in a timely fashion. I getting tired of all the bulls##t of when, how long, we can and then either won't,can't or don't know how.

Any response would be appreciated.

I recently purchased two 99s from Copper. My first time with a 99. My close friend at work got the other one and he's not happy with it transmitting and recieving. He plans on taking it to a local shop and tweaking it and peaking it to the max. I have not recieved mine yet and was wondering what to do ? I'm afraid the local shop here will butcher his radio when they max it. I have faith in 307 and 181 from all the talk on the forum. CB shop techs do tune ups differently. What exactly do the techs at copper do when they perform a quality check and is it the same as tweak and peak ? Thanks everybody from Ia.

If you friend JUST got one he should RETURN it for service. If he is not happy because it dosent work AS WELL as he expected thats another matter. Here i go catching hell again but the only correct way to tune a radio is to FACTORY spec. The radio should meet these out of the box. Now if he wants to " peak it up" or mod it go for it there is a lot of mods that can be done to a radio all of which VOID any warntee. I agree 181 and 307 are your best bet there are others just as good you can see them posting on this forum....good luck it's allways a crap shoot just like car repair.

If you are looking for a good tech, E-Mail Ham Supplies, they always do a good job, and are honest. They are located in southern california. The e-mail address is jd-tek@jd-tek.com I believe. They also do computer repair.

Trust is an understatement. First off the guy that told you a "Super Mod" kit will increase your modulation is in left field. A "super Mod" kit has 1 capacitor inside the plastic case and YOU spent probably 20-25 dollars for it. That exact same mod can be done by youself for about $1.00. If you are tired of all the "Bull%$#^" then get away from the people who try to sell you the Bull%$#^" to begin with. All you need to do to get the same readings on your meter is cut R-249 and crank down the power. This is pure splatter JUST as the "Super Mod" kit will create by lowering the bias on the final with "0" mod. Before you bash others who know the ropes , make sure you know the facts. I could be rude and say I could make your Melaka swing 75 watts. I can do that for you but it is NOT power at 11 meters that makes the meter look good , it is harmonics. It is like a drug , Dosy meters and other cheaper meters like drugs..So do people who sell "Super Mod Kits"...

307,
I'm confused about the Dosy meter comment. My next purchase will be a good meter that reads watts, but mainly modulation in both AM and SSB. I'm new to any meter other than an SWR meter so please clarify if what you said was the Dosy's are not good?? I look at what Copper has and my limited knowledge seems to want one of the better Dosy's (running around $100) but would like your opinion. Thanks.

I run a Dosy that ive had for years.. They work decent. Not everyone wants or wants to spend 250.00 to 500.00 for a meter. thats the very last thing id spend that much for! Not every joe Cber has the $$$ for a meter that a tech uses and Dosy meters are NOT like drugs!!!! :-(

All meters are relative.....ALL.
There's nothing wrong with a Dosy, or a Euro swr 201 for that matter. Even the $500 Bird will show false watts via harmonics.
Use whatever meter you select for your relatively accurate carrier readings. Nearly all of them will read different forward power (peak) readings.
