Hello all. I have just recieved (well not yet but the ups tracker says it is out for delivery so it will be anytime today) a kl300p amp. I plan to use this with a cobra 148 nw st, brand new, no mods, in my explorer. I was wondering how to make sure that the radio doesnt put out more power than the amp can handle, 4 watts. Now the radios box says it does 4 watts. does this mean it dead keys at a lower power and swings to 4 watts or that it dead keys at 4 watts and swings higher in wattage? It has been recomended by several that i run it at about 2 watts, but if my radio does 4, How do i decrease the power. Also, if i am dead keying at 4 or under, but i swing above 4, will the swing power hurt the amp? Or is it just the dead key power you want to keep low? I am greatful for any and all info. Oh and a speacial thanx to Copper for the VERY FAST SHIPPING!!!! IM VERY IMPRESSED AND YOU HAVE DEFENATLY WON YOURSELF ANOTHER DIEHARD CUSTOMER. I would recommend hturning the carrier down to 1w. There is an internal adjustment in the 148 to do so. Would also recommend increasing the ALC and AMC.
You will need a decent meter to do these things. If you have one let me know and I'll give you the adjustment numbers. If you do not, let someone that knows how to do so adjust it. |

Warlock, Thank you for your reply and your help in this matter. Yes I do have a meter that should do the trick, but I have no idea what pots to ajust. I would, in addition to having the radio turned down to 1 watt, like to turn the modulation up enough where it is LOUD but, the most important thing to me, in addition to having the modulation loud, is clean, clear audio. Thank you for your time and effort.
