I own a Maco "Seventy-Five" that uses one 8950 tube....it's comparable to the BlackCat JB-75, JB-12 and other "modulators" manufactured by Wawasee Electronics. In my opinion, these are some of the most remarkable pieces of equipment ever made for sheer "talk power"....the modulation is increbible....if you've ever heard anyone talking on one, then you know what I'm talking about. Two questions: 1. Are any of you other people running one of these devices and as fond of it as I am? 2. I'd give ANYTHING if there was a solid state device that was comparable to these units....anyone know of anything? The_Axxis Central Ohio |

Those JB's are nice little rigs, but they want run with your orange face 'punkin' maco. The two tube 'punkin' is really bad. I don't think you will ever find a transistor modulator that will talk with the Tube type, can't compare to the plate modulation. Add your Browning with its plate mod to the maco, and your at the top of the class. Have your seen the orange face 300 'punkin', I just put a picture of mine in my profile, they came out with 2057's, one driving 4, 1 KW+ of clear modulation. I still have 2057s in mine, but they are hard to find. I have some 8950s, but no extra 2057s. They will interchange. Most of the one and two tubers came with 2057s. The Varmints with the super-mod switch will get close to the 'punkin' macos. |

Hey Axxis, have you seen one of the Varmints, I put a pic on mine in my profile, they will run the orange face Macos a close second for modulation. They are more a cross between a amplifier and modulator, with the 'supermod' switch on, they drop the key-up greatly, and increase modulation. I beefed this one up, added a larger transformer and another tube, it has a 6KV6 driving 3 6LR6s. The 6LR6 has the same output as the 8950, so you can imagine how it would swing. This is the amp I use most of the time when I need a little extra. It and the 'punkin' macos are the only amps I've owned, that will make my RMS meter swing like a peak reading meter. |

you can put a 2057 in the one tuber, and you will get more out of it. |
