Well I have complete'd the simply task of putting 11mtrs in My FT101Z. It works swell, My 14 yr old son watched and helped me as I was removing the old xtal and putting in the 11mtr one, He has seen me sit and listen to it on 10 meters and the other bands. I hadn't explained why I haven't used it till the 11mtr xtal was installed. After putting in the 11 mtr xtal, and tuning it on 11mtrs, the very first station we heard was in Joannasburg South Africa... I was excited to hear this, I was on 27.515 USB. He was calling for any North American station. My son half heartedly said "Do you think he can hear you Dad?...I told him we'd sure find out. On the first try he responded to me saying "I was 5by7..Q5 audio", and ask my QTH...I told him and he said he new where Ohio was on the map...LOL...My Boy was really excited too...He later ask me...Dad if you knew it worked that well why didn't you talk on the other bands while you waited to install the crystal. I explained to him that it was a matter of respect for the Hams...and if everyone just did what thay wanted where they wanted...then the ham bands would be no different then Channel 19.
I guess I really opened a can of worms here, Now he wants me to explain propagation, and why I can make the contacts sometimes and sometimes not?
Anyways....I'll still be on 27.575LSB in hopes of hearing one of my fellow fourm-er...
One last Question? Does anyone know if a YC601 freq.counter for the 101 series Yaesu will work on my FT101Z....it takes a different crystal then the E, EE, F and all the other 101's to achive 11mtrs.....So lets see if anyone knows...~OHIOBIKER~575~ |
