What is going on with the COPPER FORUM ? It use to be that there were a lot of people would be on here having intelligent conversations and question's. I sure miss reading the post and meeting new people and making new friend's. I sure hope 11 meters (CB ) isn't dying out. Seems like all people want to do anymore is cell phone's and text and computer's. I am a ham operator with GENERAL license and I enjoy all forms of radio communication. I will never give up 11 meters . So how about it everybody. Is CB RADIO dying? |

Hi Charliebrown. I've been wondering the same thing myself. If you have Zello on a cell phone or network radio you can catch up with myself, Mike (Moderator 120), Scott (Northern lights) and Jeff (Moderator636) on a channel called The Copper cavern. It's very much like the old voice chat and hopefully will become a popular platform for us all to chat once again. DX from here to over the big pond has been non existant on CB and almost non existant on the Ham bands too. Network radio is a useful way to keep in touch when DX just ain't there but in my mind will never replace PROPER radio. Tech858/Jim MM0TXO Wavin' a hand from Scotland

I cannot stand smartphone machines, so avoid them whenever possible. I do check the forum now and then to see if anyone has asked a question I am able to answer. Your radio 'Mythbuster' since 1998

Dale. It's basically like the old voice chat which used the teamspeak platform. You can use your PC, Tablet or smart phone or a dedicated network radio. I was sceptical myself when I first heard about it but after many hours of sitting in front of a CB radio listening to nothing but white noise I decided to give it a go. Firstly I tried Zello and to my surprise I found quite a few CB and Ham radio related channels available to join. I found it quite a relief that they were very friendly and most of all there are many ham radio operators on there from all over the world especially the US. As I've said it will NEVER replace real radio but is there when the radio is quiet and conditions are flat and you are looking for someone to talk to. Tech858/Jim MM0TXO Wavin' a hand from Scotland

Yes the ham bands are at low tide and cb, all will be low tide for many years, the next sun spot cycle will be the same or worse they say. Anyhow I am to ZELLO, will report back. CEF795 |

Road Warrior Jim, you can get the Zello app for smart phones or you can get it on your PC. There are network radios out there to buy but best to start off with phone or PC. It's basically just like using the old voice chat but on a different platform. Tech858/Jim MM0TXO Wavin' a hand from Scotland

Dale Like you I like to use this forum and will continue to do so until it ain't here . Zello is not another forum it is a program similar to the old voice chat using VoIP. As our voice chat is no longer available I thought it would be a good idea to set up a channel on Zello so we could all get back to chatting like we used to rather than just typing. You don't have to use it on a smart phone as it's can be accessed on a PC like the voice chat used to be. Tech858/Jim MM0TXO Wavin' a hand from Scotland

Hi to all, I check in here from time to time to see what's happening. 11m is very quiet here apart from some inter island skip and a little bit of DX from 43,172 divisions. All the best for the festive season which is coming up quick. Best of health and DX to all from way down here in the South Pacific Ocean 73rds to all, John, CEF0195, 41HN3800, ZL1PO, #21, Hamilton,NEW ZEALAND.

Good to hear from ya again 858. Cold windy here. Suppose to get a few inches snow. Waiting to see if I have to have back surgery . Trying to put it off. Right now I am waiting for the band's to open back up. I have my General ticket and use about every band available. Perhaps one day we will be able to communicate when the condition's get better like in the ole day's. Have a very blessed day and a Very Merry Christmas to you and the family. |

Tech 858, Year's ago when condition's were good I use to be able to communicate your way here from the east cost of the USA. I went by Double Nickel . There are a few that are using my sign but they talk filthy I am a Christian and I do not. So if ever you here me you will be able to know which it is. Of course this was on 11 meter SSB. I use to swing the MACO three element beam your way and it was like talking local. I sure miss the day's of great condition's like it was back in the day. I am sure I had most likely made contact with you and people around you. Since then I have made my General Ham License. |
