Mudduck, what are you putting the sweet sixteen in? If you have a 90-100 amp alternator it will run it pretty good, I've seen several run on 100 amp alternator, you need to add around a 1000 amp battery, but those are not very expensive. Just run a lower key-up, keep it around 800 watts and let it swing, you want be 'no mudduck'. |

Run the 16 on a 100a alternator and you'll be replacing it soon, hopefully not along with the transistors in your amp from current starvation and other electrical objects in your vehicle from running at low voltages. A Sweet 16 needs a 160a current supply, and your vehicle needs at least 40. |

Have you tried it, or owned one, I have, and ran one, for 3 or 4 years, with a 100 amp alternator and a 1000 amp battery, no problems with either. And the guy I sold it to, has been running it in a dumptruck for a couple years and still not problems with the Amp. No maybe or it might or wonder, I know it'll work, not at full output, but who wants to run one like that anyway. I ran it on 800 watts key, and banged the side on a 2k meter. I had it in a fullsize chevy pickup, didn't bother anything except it came over the speakers, if the radio was on, and of course dimmed the lights some. You have to be reasonable about, you can't talk while sitting still at idle, you gotta keep the rpms up, and you don't keep it keyed down for 10 minutes. |

mudduck 262: I run a no name 8 pill in my mobile, 200 amp gm alternator, with 2 marine batt.s . With a ts 667 driver,I have no problem. You just have to use LARGE wire. I bought the alt. at Summit Racing Equip. You did'nt say what kind of vehicle you had, but the alt. is easy to adapt to just about all engines. MO PILLS! MO PILLS! MO PILLS!! You can get a lot of the stock alternators beefed up if you have a good shop close, and its not that expensive. No doubt the more available amps you have is better, but most of the amplifiers don't pull as much as the figures add up to. The Texas Star 1600 is more like in the 100 amp range. The 667 max pull is 57 amps, and it runs a driver pill, 2290. The 1600 is just 2 667s without the driver pills. You gotta add a radio or small driver amp, which gets you back to about double the amperage pull of a 667, which would be about 116 amps, since most people don't run them at full output, your talking less that 100 amps. That's where the big battery, or two batteries come in, you have a 1000 or 2000 amp reserve. I know lots of guys that run 600 watt amplifiers in stock S-10s and rangers, their lights get pretty dim, but they're talking, lol. |

Thanks again for the replies.I was plannining on putting the Sweet Sixteen in a S-15 Blazer and driving it with a RCI 2970.I talked with an installer at a stereo shop and he told me they could do the install if I had everything ( alt, brackets if needed, hook up wire,etc...). I may go through with this project after all. Thanks for all your help. |

You might also talk to your stero shop and ask them about installing the large capacitors that they use in the larger audio systems. They may give you a bit of extra juice if you plan on running sideband with the quick high peaks. |
