Howdy Doctor. I haven’t been on the radio for over a month now. Not been feeling very well. It sounds like cycle 24 is still alive. 2014 was a fantastic year for skip. Europe in the morning and the South Pacific in the evening. Sure miss those days. Hope cycle 25 is just as good. Happy DXing to ya. DX is the next best thing to being there.

Doctor - because stupidly, most 2m people stick to repeaters. This is why my mobile rig is a dual receiver one. I have one side switching between 146.520 and 52.525 or 29.600 while the other side scans the repeaters. Tech237 N7AUS God made me an athiest, who are you to question his wisdom?

May I vote for 237? Doc your primary error was that you should have looked up on the internet for a list of repeaters and related information for repeaters on your travel route. Virtually all amateurs use only repeaters and not simplex in their local communications. A little appropriate programing of your 2 meter radio would have very likely been quite rewarding. N5LRZ |

There are a LOT of people on 146.520 simplex in my area. It's our "home channel". I have a radio on 146.520 almost 24/7. It all depends upon which area you find yourself located. Simplex activity varies. Your radio 'Mythbuster' since 1998

2 Meters is dead here in northern Minnesota. Only time you hear anyone on simplex or the repeaters is when there is a skeded net. Not like the 1990s when 2 was buzzing with activity. DX is the next best thing to being there.

RE: CharlieB A small bit of personal advise: do not stop. Get the Extra Study Guide of your choosing and just keep on going. You have only one more license class to go and while you are in the mood to study stuff now is not the time to stop. Once you get Extra Status then you can stop--there ain't no more to get. Keep goin push push push forward. N5LRZ |
