I have an idea, since Antennas haven't changed a whole lot in several decades i purpose this. Antennas in the I-Max 2000 class don"t require ground planes, but then again you can buy a ground plane kit for it and under certain conditions it should help, i think that is fact correct me if im wrong please. I purpose taking a I max 2000 ground plane kit and placing it on the mast pipe under a Maco 5/8 or a spt 500 , and place new elements between and below the existing horizontal elements. Note on some beams they are considered parasitic elements. Im sure if it were that simple it would be common knowledg, ideas lead to inventions, just trying to contribute. Hopefully its been tried by a forum member and i get the dunce hat...So since everyone has spring fever and are starting on their summer projects maby you could put this on the bottom of your list,,,,lets see the larger the capture area the better the recieve. All opinions appreciated but please at least think about it before you call me crazy... trying to jump start your brains... food for thought gene-- trinity if a wood chuck could chuck wood how much wood would a wood chuck chuck---answer as much wood as a wood chuck could chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood..... |

i forgot 1 thing, look at it like this ,to increase ground conductivity, or to prevent ground loss 1 would bury lots of copper wire or add salt or water or tons of fertile soil,, the addition of the extra ground plane kit may help that. Hope i aint fishing with a empty hook...Sounds like it would work to me or should work... or perhaps reflect some of the downward signal back up at a useful angle...IM sure with all the forum members some-one has a opinion,,, if i had the ground plane kit i would test the theroy myself.. put the thinking caps on looking forward to the reply trinity |

Charliebrown i have talked dx to a charlie brown- dont get me wrong facts wold be nice but opinions are going to be more fun or argumentive, as im sure you have 1 so lets here it I am open minded to anything to do with antennas, not saying im gullable. IM sure everyone is really busy as you can see they are a slow to respond sometimes. Sorta like smokey and the bandit---what we have here is a failure to communicate.... maby we need some fun and still be able to learn---everyone is a kid t heart,,, gene trinity |

Trinity. Please read all the articles here on this forum by TECH 833 and other TECHS . A wealth of information and research by them that will answer every question you have. It takes time to read but worth every minute of it. Of course there are plenty of book's you can purchase on this subject. However for me I trust 833 and other Techs here more. As far as the internet other sources be careful. Lot of people out there that will mislead people for a laugh or to get them to ruin their radio system. HAVE A BLESSED DAY. |

Charliebrown - and we techs thank you for you vote of confidence. Many of us have worked in the industry for many years (since 75 in my case) and although we learnt a lot in college, we learnt even more in the School of Hard Knocks. I learnt not to wear metal watches while working on equipment with High Voltages applied. Still not sure what hurt the most - the shock from 3KV or the 4inch square oak table leg it threw me into. I have been trying to model Trinity's idea using NEC, but have not had consistent enough results to form a theory yet. Part of that is I am not sure I understand exactly what he is suggesting. Sigh one of those times a diagram may help Tech237 N7AUS God made me an athiest, who are you to question his wisdom?

Trinity is confusing ground plane and counterpoise elements. I did an article on the Imax 2000 ground plane kit showing the antenna range plot of the Imax with and without the GPK. You might want to start there to see what it does. The trick with base antennas is to get as much signal as possible on the horizon. Adding a lot of metal around the feedpoint can sometimes make them worse. Your radio 'Mythbuster' since 1998

Your perfectly welcome TECH 237. Over the year's you all have helped and taught so many and I found that everything on communication's is more true than what I have found on the net. I am sure that other's here on this forum will agree. |
