Last August,we had the HUV-6 stolen on our wedding day.

August this year, my 4 band mobile vertical whip, self lowered at 70mph and broke something inside the base. Still cannot get the base apart to see if it can be fixed.

This week, some lowlife stole the half-wave 2m whips steel stinger, without undoing the grub screw even. The left the matching section base, just took the stinger. Thought about drilling out the base to take the stinger from the quad band antenna, but not enough metal would have been left.

So now, I have to replace the quad band (10/6/2/70) antenna. I am tempted to move it from the rear hatch mount and roof mount the replacement - when I decide what to replace it with

Or park in the same area, a short whip and a wire hooked to a charger open full, so a dandy surprise when the loose hand grabs the antenna.

What you running for mobile, I have the tyt 8800 2/440 works like a champ, and with the repeaters linked easy contacts to INDIANAPOLIS to EVANSVILLE etc. on 440.

Hello Revpo, I am having to research how and what I can use for antenna mounts for my F-150 because it does not have a steel body anymore. So magnet antenna's I have will not work anymore. Also it is not as simple as one would think because when you use any other metal other than what they are made of now will cause corrosion to set up. I don't want to go with a fender or bumper mount. Bumper mount's give a lot of reflect and additional swr problem's. the fender mount's where the hood is will put the rf in your face. For now I am looking at a stake hole mount. Of course not made of steel. I am looking for the same mount that will fold down when it hit's anything but high speed from what I had found from reading comment's about it is a problem every person seem to be having. People said to put a plastic strap around it so it won't do that at high speed but will still fold if hit. I hate to hear about the trouble our friend is having with antenna theft.

By the way. Not yet announced but for now most auto maker's will be getting away from steel bodies. After some time they will if experiment's goes well will be making auto bodies out of plastic later. WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT THAT? NOT MUCH. Perhaps our tech's will be able to help if and when that does happen. Auto maker's are not concerned about the radio operator.

Revpo - have the TYT9800 Quad band, and the IC-706. The 706 is running on an MFJ tapped multi-band antenna (minus the wander lead) and an automatic ATU, that works up to 6m.

Eventually the 1/4 wave will roof mount for the 2m/440 side of the 706.

Hey Tech 237, How is your TYT 9800 quad band working for you? I have a TYT MD 380 DMR and for the money I am very happy with it. However I wish that the USA would start to produce our radio's. Also My antenna for my 2 meter and 70cm is a beam antenna that will take 100 MPH plus wind. It has a total of 11 element's. I forgot the name of it but later I will post it.

Revpo, while Chirp may work (never did get it to work for me), I did mine manually and was able to set repeater offset without nay problems.

On 2m I was even able to set the odd offset used on a ISS frequency.

CharlieBrown - I am suspecting it was more a case of the interface cable than the software

COOL here, Have had trouble with AIRMAIL on WINLINK when WINLINK switched systems, I had wrong password in it from old system, now working again, new system seems much faster, I usually use PACTOR 3 on WINLINK.
My WINLINK ADDRESS if anyone uses it is..k8len@winlink.org.
See all on WINLINK or ECHOLINK..still free and works great.
