Hello all. I occasionally get time to check the forum...more so at this time of year as things slow for a brief time. I've seen posts about the losses we have had here throughout the years, people wondering if the channels are still active, etc.
As I ponder where I've been in the last 5 to 10 years, I wonder 2 things:
(1)- do we have a place for "those remembered"? I would like to at least pay my respects. (2) - could we start a grass roots movement [so to speak] to engage those who are still active in our own back yards? By this I mean, it would be nice to know who is local to me (Ann Arbor, MI) so if conditions are awful, we'd have a local group to chat with.
Just to disclose, I am a Ham, been one for over 25 years...but I still have a CB and I do listen. Most importantly, I'm not ashamed to admit that like some hams are. I have a very modest antenna where I live (subdivision) so sometimes people are hard to hear. It would be cool if i could find a few guys that still hang out, 10 miles away and just yack whenever we can.
My point is (to all of this), is rather than relish on our 'good ol days' of when this Forum seemed to be more active, lets make it 'good ol days' again. Because it's what happened back when I came in (early 2000's). For whatever reason, there was a movement that brought CB radio back up, and it might just have been a bunch of local guys...who happen to hear other local guys miles and miles away...and we eventually found a home in the CEF Nets. Could happen, but it has to start in our backyards (my belief).

Like you, I am also a ham, and used to be somewhat active on 11m. In the late 80's, CB was absolutely all there was for mass socializing from the comfort of your home or automobile (assuming you didn't want to learn morse code and get a ham license). There is a lot of competition for that time today.
I tune across the CB band from time to time, and all I hear are some stations on channel 17. None are very close, and most of the time, they are just arguing anyway. No activity on other channels.
Agree, it would be cool to have some chit chat on 11m again. Guessing with the lack of population on CB these days, maybe we could actually have some meaningful QSOs.
