I have both radios and they both only have loud sound on FM. On AM I turn the channel selector and band swith and the background sound never changes.The dx33 started working for a day or 2 than went silent again.Any help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated

fm always will be louder. you use squelch on fm.
listen for anyone talking if/when ya find some
if ya gotta turn volume up halfway or more to hear them then maybe recieve is not tuned up. however when ya do hear someone and ya dont need to turn volume way up then ya just got quiet recieve..enjoy this not all radios are
