Im looking to install a new radio in my 2012 f150. I have an Icom 706mk2g in there now. I need more power and would like loud and proud audio. I use the radio in the woods on AM and while im on the road and here on the property. The ic 706mk2g works but not really intended for what im using it for. Kinda looking at the connex 3300 or galaxy 33hp which rig is better? Any other rig that may do me a better job? |

I like the 2970n2. It is very stable on SSB frequencie's as well on am. If tuned by the Tech's at Copper it will give you the best performance you would want. Please read the detail's on this radio. You will love how you can tune to any frequency. 24.000 to 32.000 . The list of function's is to long to post so pull down the manual and read. For now no one has the RCI 2970n2 or any of the dx radio's in stock . I like my 2970n2 to do about 2 watt dead key and swing to 80 on AM and 120 on SSB They can do more but I do not like to push it. I had been looking for Copper to get them in so I can get another for Christmas but it does not look like they will get them in. I have been a customer of Copper for about 23 year's now. I AM COMPLETELY 100% HAPPY WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THE 2970N2 AND THE DX SERIES RADIO'S. NEXT BEST THING TO A HAM RADIO. Do not clip any diode's or limiter's. These radio's have plenty of modulation and more to spare. They have so much that I only run a stock mic. I did do the clarifier mod though. |

You will find that this is a good am radio also. But, if am is all you need then you can save money in buying just that---AM. I like to get everything in one package. Never know when you might want to communicate in other mode's. |

thank you for your input. Im kinda leaning toward the connex 3300 or the 70 watt 4300. Most of my talking is AM in the woods or working the property around here. |

either of those will do fine especially if AM is where your mostly at.if most of ya talking is say 15-20 miles max then the 3300 should be quite well.alot really depends more on antenna then radio really dale/a.k.a.hotrod cef426 cvc#64 454 [dx numbers] 38lsb

I am running a 102in whip at the moment. Sometimes I use my tarheel screwdriver antenna. Just depends on where im going to be spending most of my time. If im in the thick swamps of the property I use the whip as it wont break. |

Don't sound right, I also use a Icom 706mkIIg in a pick up truck ( Colorado ) with a Tarheel M100A HP and use it on all bands and all modes, it does me very well, My question would be are you using the 706 on CB frequencies? If your only on CB Frequencies and only using AM then I would pick out a good CB radio and not a Ham Radio to use on AM mobile. and I would never use a Ham radio on CB Frequencies. 73 George KI4NBE

I use the rig on all bands cb also. Normally on 20 and 40 meters. But when it comes to working the propertyI'm on cb. These boys around here are not going to be hams ever. Well at least the ones that work for me. The icom is a great rig and I love it just don't shine as an am radio. I've been into radio for about 25 years and haven't bought a cb rig in prolly 10+ years. I hold an extra class ticket just not familiar with the new radios and boards they use these days. |

Fishbone; If you need something to use at work, I'd get a Bearcat 980 tune it (tough radio) and put a KL200 behind it. Copper has both as well as the Stryker 955, just the 955s a lot to have of the job sight. 73 Pressman

The galaxy and connex radio are basically the same. I think they even have the same board in them,I recommend the new galaxy 99v2. |

Not sure what your looking to do, but if you want a radio to talk good on AM, I surely wouldnt go with a Galaxy..a connex is a good AM talking radio, just use it and find you a amp somewhere... |
