These are tough antennas. Mine has been iced over the last few days. Last Feb. it was worst then this, the top was pointed straight to the gound, U shaped. But when it thawed it was straight as ever. |

A friend of mine Imax snapped also while covered with ice here in Pa. But I have other friends whom have had Imax's for many years and they are still doing great... Luck of the draw I guess...lol Glad your Imax is taking the punishment well Scrapiron63... Road Warrior / CEF 375 PA (Jim) Local ch. 27.505 Am or LSB

A tornado got my tower and beam about 6 years ago. I had up 70' of tower but went back with just 40 feet. I first put up a metal GP but the ice got it the first winter. I then went with the I-Max. It's had ice every winter but survived so far. Here's a picture from last Feb when it was icing up. It made a complete "U" before it finished icing. But straighten right up when it melted. The manufacturers are using materials today that reacts so much better to temp changes. If you go back a few years you'll see 6061-T6 being used and antennas would snap. Now you find more 6063-T832 more flexible and to a point, has some memory. 73 Pressman

After the ice melted the antenna straighten right back up. Road Warrior my tower is on a hinge plate. I've got an electric winch at the bottom of the pull pole. Doesn't take long to lay it down. Scrapiron CEF 108 |
