Hello, I am new to this forum and I have a problem with my Uniden Madison that I got the other day, it has a Digi Scan with a FM kit installed, today when I was using it in my car I was trying it out for the first time and was doing pretty good, got good reports and when I went on sideband on channel 39 LSB I talked to a guy in New York and he said it was blowing smoke his way so I thought I did good with this radio I was using it for about 45 minutes and then it just stopped transmitting, something didn't seem right so I checked the watts but there no keying on the watt meter that is inline, not the one in the radio, it didn't do anything, so I thought just maybe it was the SWR's, maybe they were so high it screwed something up but I couldn't get calibrated, nothing, not even a little bit, nothing, it receives but no transmitting, what could be wrong with it.
Thank you any info would be appreciated

well could be a few things
1/ bad mic
2/bad solder on mic plug
3/if power mic bad battery
4/mic gain may have accidently got turned down all the way. [would only affect ssb]
5/ could be swrs but usually a swr of 2.1 or lower wont hurt radio
6/ radio could have been mis tuned voltage tuned too high ,output tuned too high causing failure
id check the first 4 things i listed first.you,ll
need either a different radio or antenna anylizer
to check your swrs.although i doubt there high enough to hurt your radio.im more worried about number 6 being your radio has been highly modified

To me it sounds like the final is gone.

If the final is gone, what is involved in fixing the problem, I heard a guy tell me that the transmitter transistor could be bad too but culd that be a reason, it did work or a about 45 minutes but then it stopped keying and after it cools down it keys again and then the same thiung happens, so I am really starting to wonder, do you think it could be the mic or something else could be the reason.

If it is heat sensitive, I strongly suspect the Finals (I.E. transmit transistor, but correct name is finals.), and/or the driver transistors are failing. Also possible you have a cold (bad) solder joints in the transmitter.

OK, Thanks, it don't seem that hard to fix then, I was thinking of the whole board but that is what I was wondering so that is what other people had told me to do, was check cold solder joints and look at the finals, are we talking about the 1969 transistor here or is there another one that I need to check too

im not completely sure but my guess would be
the final is a 1969 final. im not sure what the driver would be.if ya replace the final ya might
wanna go ahead and replace the driver as well.
considering the age of the radio this could save
ya some headaches later down the road
