I have an older 257 Non-HP. It's It's very stable on SSB. A close second to the 2950's. Izzy CEF#502

The 257hp is a great little radio, I have one and don't take up a lot of room. just hook it up to a good antenna and your set. I had mind hooked up to a 4 element beam and a Wilson 1000 on my SUV back in 05 and it did good for me. Good Luck in your choice. George KI4NBE

SilverBullet516, I own 4 of the Magnum 257s one amber displays and 2 of the Blue displays then I got the 257HP. I can tell you the compact size is great it's just a little bigger than the Uniden PC122XL that I had and that's just from the heat sink on the back side. A lot of options and in my own opinion a great price. Oh and performance... I Love it. Probably one of the better choices that I have ever made as far as radios go. I have a Galaxy and well let's just say it is way too big for an Acura... Cars now days just don't have the space for a radio that size. So I guess you could say I recommend the Magnum 257. :-) TomCat in VA CEF217
