After a few years of no radio, i decided it was time to get out the boxes from the garage, and set up the station. PC 122 did not work, it was a great radio, the Cobra 148 also did not work, may have something to do with me dropping it on the cement floor LOL. All i had left were two radios. One old Uniden Pro 510 from Copper ( It work like a charm) and a old Cobra 25(Also still going strong) A99 is up about 20ft, will add more pipe later, and the moble in the car with a Wilson 1000 magnet mount. Yes it's not much, but i will see how it goes for now. Hope to hear you on the airwaves KG4RYT (RABBIT) JIM |

What's the first thing you noticed that may be different from what you remember vs. how the airwaves in your area sound today? Your radio 'Mythbuster' since 1998

Most locals now hang around channel 19 (10-12) each night. Mostly AM traffic, haven't been on air enough to see if any other channels are active yet.........I will get back to you. KG4RYT (Rabbit) JIM |

I too just pulled the dusty old radio out of the box after 8 years. The internet/radio allows me to meet every butthead in the world that I don't get to meet in person.

I have a radio in my work truck that is 11 meters. There is almost no local traffic on it that I have noticed day or night. I often think about replacing it with one of my 10 meter mobile radios. Are you active on the ham bands at all? |

I have a few 11 meter radios here in the shack.. I have not found a need to hook them up or turn them on in a couple of years, due to the fact that there is no one in my location to talk to. The truck drivers hangs out around channel 19, but they are too busy talking on their cell phones to want to rag chew with a old Possum. There is more respect today then there was 30 years ago.. I have given away several good 11 meter antenna's and went so far as to install them in towers for several local friends of mine, but none of them has the time to sit and talk anymore. |

KG4RYT = You will find a lot of activity on two meters in your area if you program in the local repeaters.. With a good antenna such as a Diamond V2000 or X510 - you ought to be able to hit everything from Winston Salem to Raleigh Durham to South Boston - Danville Va... Great location for amateur radio... You might want to invest some time into getting a HF license and some money into a HF radio. I would imagine that you could make lot's of contacts if you even had a 10 / 6 meter transceiver and a good antenna from your location. |

KG4RYT, Find a repeater close by that will do a report on your radio then check and set the deviation dead on 5khz. Some rigs are barely at 4khz. Had my old Azden on 5khz (max legal). I used a home brew 10 element beam and with 5watts could work from Vero Beach, FL to Tampa and the FL keys full quiet with 45watts. 73 Pressman
