I have a Kmart K705 CB that works, however the transmit audio quality indicates that the caps are going south which is not surprising for the age. I can find a little info for the K605 and have tried looking up the FCC number but it is incomplete. Does anyone have any info on this radio, schematic or tune up? I'd do the cap job on it if I could get some info. It has a halfway decent receive and sound to it and about the same size case as the TRS 427 in my collection. Who made this radio? And yes I know that it's a junker but I have nothing better to do and it was free! Thanks, CheapSkate |

Kmart does not manufacture any of it's goods. If you open it up and check you might find a clue as to who built it. Also the external appearance might also find that it resembles a popular maker. Like Radio Shack the TRS 427. If it will talk farther than you can yell it is worth something. |

Scooterman, I've looked all over it but haven't found any clues. I have a 427 but the boards aren't similar. I'm going to try to replace the caps to help it listen better. A buddy is giving me a Uniden PC122XL today so I can do SSB... Thanks for the reply, Cheapskate |

Not sure about Kraco and Kmart CBs, make sense though. The PC122XL that I received yesterday didn't have a mic but the Kmart mic plugged right in and works well. Cheapskate Hopefully this replaces the post that I did a few minutes ago...I exited the site while in the preview and think that I lost it. If I posted it then I appologize for the double. |

I vaguely remember Kraco and all I remember them making was low end car stereo equipment. |

Kraco was simular to Midland. Seems they didnt have much in the way of an modulation amp and needed a power mike. Recap it ! It'll make a good mobile for a work truck or Jeep-what I'm saying is they were tough radios. That PC122 is a good radio and easily modded. Handy Andy had quite a bit of info on them but has moved on to other things. PC122XL VR5 modulation/VR10 AM Power/VR 11 SSB Power 73 Pressman

PressMan, The PC122XL is really clean inside and out. The guy had it tuned up a few years ago and it shows about 8w AM and 16w SSB. We were talking last night and the mic went south so I had to switch to a back up radio. Today I was running errands and swung by the CB store to get another mic but they were closed for the holiday. After I got home I realised that I had passed right by two truckstops. Rats, they would have had mics... CheapSkate. |

Kraco did make some fun radios though- I have a 4090 AM/FM/8-Track/40 channel all in one still in the box. I had alot of memories with radios like that. |
