My CB hobby started in the late 60's. I know much of the items that existed then such as black tubes, Sonar amps, CLR 2's, Astro planes, etc. One item I had seen only once in a CB magazine, I have yet to identify what it was. It was a device that looked almost like a police revolving light. It was to be put near the antenna for increased gain. Does this ring a bell with any of you real old timers? |

yup, it was an rf generator, with two (or one) 7146 tubes, more of a modulator, as such. it usually had a hookup between ur mic and rig, and could generate as much as 15 blistering watts! it was very forgiving as far as tune,...load,..but remember most factory rigs were around 9 to ten watts back then, so an extra five or so made you on top,.. And i also remember the fancy led's quite a conversation topic. glad you brought it up. KV4DZ |

i'm waiting for someone to show me a 15 watt modulator that got hooked between the mike and the radio... tune and load on a audio device??? Someone please show me how putting a "device" near a antenna will increase gain... except for a tuned element. Also no cb radio produced 9 or 10 watts out of the box most were lucky to get 3 or 4.. lots of kooky things out there like the globe of water you screwed under your wip ... hey it makes sence if your antenna is over water you get out better.... im not kidding in the mid 70's the were selling this thing. bruce |

I guess it could depend on what you mean when you say "gain". If it worked like some AM broadcast receiver antennas, you could put it next to the antenna and get more recieve. More receive "gain" so to speak. No way it could help on xmit, of course. |

on the AM antennas you are increaing the Q by a loosely coupled high Q antenna is a neat trick i like useing it with my crystal radios but when your talking a 1/2 wave cb antenna the only thing you might do is to distort the horz pattern which would give some gain in one limited direction bruce |
