I asked this on the MG Forum and it broke down into an undisciplined mess, so hopefully people here are better behaved. My normal days rostered to work includined both Xmas and New Years day, both paid at 2.5x normal rate. The take home difference was just 34% of what was earned that day. That is if for the two days my Gross was $500, I took home just $170. This makes me wonder, why we bother to work a Public Holiday, when it could be spent with our families. What's your opinion?? Before retirement I'd would go through spells of overtime like 12-16 hours per day 7 days a week plus holidays. Sunday was X 2.5 as was a holiday. This would happen at model change time. Once one of the guys got a check for his normal pay, flags went up and some refused to work O.T. When this happened, the company made the O.T. mandatory. (right to work state and no union) I worked as many hours as I could, because I got it back at Tax time. If you have no way to get the $$ even through deductions, I don't think I'd work it. 73 Pressman/KC4ZWM

Guys I am retired and over the years have worked a lot of overtime. What it amounted to, I worked one day overtime and cleared the other five days I worked. |

Tech858, Actually on an normal day I take home 66% of what I make for the day. The days pay went up by 2.5x, but the taxes double in rate, not amount. Tech237 N7AUS God made me an athiest, who are you to question his wisdom?

Simon, Welcome to the new economy. All I can suggest is- vote carefully from now on, and urge others to do the same. To address your specific problem, you need to "play dirty" if you wish to prevail. Site something they cannot dispute or fight you on- religious belief. Tell them to examine their nearest Bible, particularly the 10 commandments. Suggest they read the 4th. commandment. Then, demand they respect your religious rights. One of my wife's co-workers did just that and won big time. She also became a "protected class" (new corporate H.R. buzzword that they could not fire her for fear of legal action). She worked there for a few more years before finding a better job with another company, but the time she did spent there afterwards was peaceful and calm since no manager was allowed to lean on her too heavily for fear of H.R. issues. Give the P.C. types a taste of their own medicine! It tastes terrible, but it works. Your radio 'Mythbuster' since 1998

833 - they wont let me vote yet. I havent paid the $500 it costs to apply for Citizenship. That would bring the total up to $4,000. Tech237 N7AUS God made me an athiest, who are you to question his wisdom?

Tech237, I may be off base on this but is it possible they inappropriately took out taxes as if you averaged $500 per day during the year? Stated another way they taxed that day as if though you make $250,000 per year. If they did you would get the over tax back at the end of the year when you filed your taxes. However if I'm correct they should account for the one time increase in pay when calculating your tax for that check. Forummaster CEF001 CVC001
