Just wondering why Yeti has a product I have been waiting for since Magnum 257 first came out. Seemed like a no brainer to me that a compact chasis 10/12 radio priced slightly under the or equal to the RCI 2950DX would be the next logical move. Here where are though years latter and like all the other products on the menus not only at Copper but in the market place in general no new 10/12 meter rigs. Do we really need all the multi-branded radio's running the same RCI/Galaxy boards with ever increasing power built in??? Personally I would love to see a 10/12/6 meter rig on a small chassis, continuous tuning, all mode, USB access to the VFO, narrow notch filter, speech processor and 50 watt's RMS on all modes......Bring in in under $500 and watch them sell like hot cakes. The problem to me is that not everyone that is into 2 way radio's drives a Mac Truck or a Pickup Truck. IN fact most of us drive vechiles that do not have lots of space in area's convient to access from the driver seat. I am not really the type that wants to drill into my leather dash on a SUV to mount some monster 400 watt mega radio in plain sight. Not only does it scream "Steal Me" in this bad economy it also does not look very high class. If you want to drive clients around for business the last thing you want is some huge radio on the dash. Many center consoles are blended into the center stack and dash. Often between HVAC,Musical Radio, and Navigation their is no place to mount a big radio. So how come no-one at the parent company to RCI which makes RCI, Galaxy, Super Star and COnnex radio's had thought of this yet? The radio's are mostly SMD devices now so why not shrink the board size so the chasis can be made smaller. A big Chassis does not equal big sound!!! The only reason I have not bought a radio since my Purchase on my President Lincoln is because no one is making what I want in a package size that will fit in my Buick Lesaber, Toyota Camry, First Generation Tundra, and so on!!! Even in my old 1986 Toyota 4Runner my RCI 2950 used to be right up against the windshield when mounted on the dash. How about more controls on the mic almost like a remote face plate and a insanely long cord so we can put these monster sized black box's some place they fit out of sight and not have to touch the face of the radio very often? It would not be hard to do a remote face plate either this way you can hid the black box some place thieves can not see it or some place it will fit. Using my President Lincoln which is the smallest size radio available at the time I still have to mount that on the center console on the passenger side. It is a pain to reach for the controls especially while driving. Sure the mic has up down buttons but not RIT control not power control or mic gain control and no means to go through the bands from the mic. Might be worth while to pursue such things because I can not be the only one that has these issues! I think this is a case of "If you build it they will come!!!" kind of like field of dreams! |

I have a magnum 257hp. It is small yet packs a punch. I have a problem driving down the road with small radios. I have an Icom 706 MKII and when trying to change bands, modes, etc always hit 2 or 3 buttons instead of one. Then have to pull over to straighten it out. I also like to work on my own stuff and can't see surface mounts good enough to replace anything. tony/n5jva |
