Hi folks. I recently found a Ranger AR 3500 radio in pretty good shape.Everything appears to work fine but I have a problem with it that hopefully someone out there can help me with. The radio on USB or LSB will transmitt but only for a very short time before stopping. The red lights that light up when talking all go to zero after a few minutes. If you cease talking for about 10 minutes or so, the radio will start transmitting again and repeats stopping again. On AM, there is no transmit problem whatsoever and I have been told the radio sounds fantastic by others on AM. It almost appears as though something insdie the radio heats up and therefore shuts down the transmit on SSB. If anyone out there is familiar with a problem like this, I would be happy to hear from you. This radio is a classic and I want to get the USB / LSB transmit working as it should. By the way, receive on the radio works great on all modes - just a transmit issue on USB and LSB. Looking forward to hearing from anyone with advice as to what this problem could be. Thanks ! |

Sounds like a heating issue, I would check and be sure the SSB power has not been cranked to high. Set it back and see if that helps some. Mike Moderator120 CEF#0120/HAM #222 KB1NYD CVC#0041
