This my first offical post since i been gone from Copper Forum for quite some time. Most all of you know Rosie and we fell on some real hard times and was real hard to keep up on the bills coming in. I have no heat bills because i heet with wood and cut my own on 14 acres of thick big white oak and hickory trees. No problem there. But Electric was getting to be a real big problem, 2 years ago most i paid was $50.00 a month. Times has changed now its $150.00 a month.
So i made plans around about a year ago to make a homemade wind generator. I found a new old stock permanet magnet motor 90 volt dc - 1725 rpm motor (old pc tape drive motor). Ok now i started to dezine my own blades and hub ! (Im a welder and tool and die maker). I made my blades and hub all from scratch. Also made control panels all from old parts just laying around. Its been up in air now since last fall. I did have to buy a charge controller and dc to ac inverter though. The inverter was bought used (1500 watt 3000 surge)cheap $75 bucks. Then i went looking for battries. I wanted new 6 volt golf cart battries , There was no way to afford them. I work not to far from a huge salvage yard and found big 1000 amps battries almost new battries at $20 bucks a piece. They are wired in parallel of course for 12 volt. The big thing is not to discharge automotive battries they won't take to many discharges.

So i can now fire up all radios a few low power lights, Even the tv . Also my daughter's borrowed pc. The inverter is modified sign wave and the printer will not work at all. Most every thing works on it so far. Old tv 20 inch in our bedroom won't work on it. I replaced all lights with them low power incondecents lights. Trying to save money and money is real tight for me and i bet most all of you also.

I have my homemade wind generator on a old 45 foot tv mast pipe and guyed wired of cource.

Yep it works... The best part (when power is out i have all my radios on) Aint thats what it sappose to be???
I do have all the pictures from start to finish of this project if the (FOURUMMASTER) thinks it ok to load them i will. Im not selling anything or inplying anything. This was my own project to help me only and it did. Look around there all kinds ideals out there if you seek answers. Oh made a homemade solar heater also. Thats works good.

Its feel's good to be back
been a real long time !

hal:
glad things are working out for you and rosie'
we got our electricity back in 1950,rea had to
run a line a half mile to our house and we were
allowed 40 watts a month and it only cost us three dollars a month rea lost big time on that deal
i remember the day they turned on the elctric, i
got home from school and that house was really lit up bright, all we had were lights/refrigator
washing machine and iron, and radio.the telephone was the old wall mounted crank phone that had been changed to a dial system it too was cheap, about as cheap as electric
in early years before i was born my dad had a
carbide light system never saw it work but the apparatus was still there when i was a boy
hope to catch you on the voice chat soon:
give my regards to rosie

Thanks Guys , I left a few details out. I was typeing this trying to beat the storms that was comeing in real fast last night, Didnt have time to check my spelling and big thunder crash hit not far away. So i speeded up an hit send to que and bang lights went out. Didint even approve my own post.

I still have more work to do on my system, but it works. I bought a 15 watt solar panel used at a sale for $28.00 took a chanch and it works. In the near future like to hook up more solar panels. That way when the wind not blowing maybe some sunshine will work. I have my system all built into small shed outside my house. Lot of time and effort but little money. I need to get my wind generator up too about 75 foot to get more wind capture above some trees around the house.
Yes it works but not a full time system. Im on dc to ac right now checking it out. If my battries go below 65% i shut it down. (reamember automotive battries doint like discharge.) More battries you have more time to be hooked up on dc.

Also it was fun doing this project also. I also add this. (WARNING dc or - Direct Current can kill you just as fast as AC can. Its amps that kills you not volts ) . Let me rephrase that if you get grounded ac or dc it can stop your heart from beeting in just seconds. Its not worth fooling with if you doint know what your doing... Boy i shorted Capacitors a time or 2 and sent me over a chair and shake like a silly goofball for a couple of hours. Not Fun At All.

Any rate it is fun project. And saves money so far for me, And i thought you like to read about it. Thanks for the responce.

Thank you
Hal
