As some of you know I work for a cable company and one thing that has always left me exasperated is this attitude a large number of our customer have that we are the worst people, when we cut their services AFTER their bill reached 50 days outstanding. To them it OUR fault their payment is late, never, never their fault for not paying it. I had one guy this morning tell me "We obvioulsy don't value his custom", I so much wanted to reply " No, Sir, thats why we let you services run for 50 days without receiving any payment from you", but held my tongue. On the flipside, two calls later, an older lady worried because she was two days late, and would be able to pay until next Monday.. People today are conditioned to believe that nothing is their fault. The reason bad things happen to them is completely out of their control. You see it at work- People going out of their way to blame things on others. You see it at home, especially if your family watches lots of TV. So, it is reasonable to believe that when you fail to pay your cable bill, it could be that because your do not have enough money coming in to support your level of spending, and with today's mentality, it isn't your fault. It's because your job doesn't pay enough. It's because the price of gas has gone up and consumes all expendable income. Maybe it's because your social security or pension isn't keeping up with inflation. It couldn't possibly be that you are living beyond your means (your fault), or you simply won't admit that you cannot afford the luxury of cable service (your fault). People are accustomed to never admitting they are solely at fault. The really sad part is, for those of us who freely admit when we are at fault, it throws people off when we do. I had one client get teary eyed and wanted to hug me because I admitted I was completely at fault and arranged to use my resources make it right. Your radio 'Mythbuster' since 1998

Paul, I see that sort of thing regularly, whenever we have had say an area wide issue and a customer calls in demanding a credit, and expecting a fight. My simple "of course. That would work out to $x.xx" often leaves them speechless. Tech237 N7AUS God only made some many perfect head, on the rest he put hair.

Gooday all; We just switched to cable to get less expensive faster net, now we have TV and still have the phone. Before we watched antenna (35 channels 40-80 miles away)free, had net and phone for $127 per mo. Now we have all three for $99. I figure we have to pay a bill anyway. For 2 yrs we get to save $28 per month, not much huh, ha, that's $336 a year then it goes up $20 per mo. Just my 2 cents, the world is full of me first. Wally/Pressman/KC4ZWM

Nspector you hit the nail on the head when you said... "Sounds more like the "entitlement mentality" to me...." I couldn't agree more with you on that. It's sad to say, but you see that a lot and everywhere these days. TomCat in VA CEF217
