Without asking for an entire list of radios, on which of these radios does the variable rf power control SSB as well as AM output; Lincloln, Voyage 9000, and 2950. I know that most export radios have a pot inside for AM power but not for SSB. The only way to turn SSB down on an HR2510 is to push the mic gain switch in and/or turn down the vol. on the mic if it has a control for it. It will still peak 40 - 60 watts. Thanks.
Take Care, Randy.

Most radios control SSB output with mike gain control after internal levels are set with a fixed resister or trim pot. You may have to view your output on a scope to see any change.

In which radios does the variable power adjust sideband power?

Znut,

I don't know of any radio (the ones we deal with) that have an EXTERNAL SSB power control. Most radios have a pot internally to regulate SSB power, called an ALC. On the HR2510 it's VR104.

Another dumb question. I have a President Lincoln which I've read is/was the same radio as the HR2510 but Znut mentions it pushing 40 watts? Modified? I was told mine pushes 10 watts on ssb. Stock? Of course I've also heard that my Radio Shack CB/10 meter base antenna is a A99 in disguise. Can't seem to veryify that though. Any help?

From what I understand, the newer Lincolns will do even better than 40 watts. They are supposed to have a MRF 477(Correct, somebody?) transistor. My pal's lincoln does it on sideband, with voice, not whistle. The only "extra" is the 575 M6 mic. My 2510 is crazy for a single final radio, I am thinking about turning it DOWN! I'm using a D 104 handheld with a turner (or something) element, ugly aluminum thing held in the front of the mic with a nylon wire tie. The audio is SO peaky in the mid-voice part of the audio spectrum. Looks like a redneck creation, but has ultimate punch an busy SSB channels. Eventually I will give it up and put an Astatic 575 on it. Maybe even one of those PM100, or whatever it is, base mics with compression that Pryme, MFJ, and I think RF limited are offering.
