My given name is Roger and I like to laugh, and I attempt to make others laugh, sometimes with limited success. A few decades ago, KQT5542's sign-off spiel went something like: "This is Jolly Roger, kay-cutie double nickle forty-two in a mo-bile, we're down..." |

Handle: Catfish, Catfish638 or 808, because that is the ONLY fish that I go fishing for. Catfish638 because one year Shirley / 808xyl (my better half) and I had 638lbs of Catfish Fillet's in our 2 freezer's :-) 808? Well my original handle was Nightrider in 1971 because i bought a mobile 23 channel radio and was on the road on night shift talking on channel 3 going to work 30 miles away. In a town Ottumwa Ia , (30,000)Pop. Only a few cb operators then. Then around 1976 or so skip was going real strong and was involved in SSB when it was good, and talk around the world and the locals around the state called me lowpowerhal only 10 watts out and talked to the world. I did have 3 element horizontal beam and a Regency 123 ssb. upgraded to a president madison and qsl'ed all that i could contact. (I had 3 shoe boxes full of qsl cards,) and lost them moveing} Thats a long long time ago, This will happen again when conditions get better and the cycle is just about to start. Be a little Patience it will happen again So thats whats it is and allways will be! Patience Hal~Moderator136~KCØSVC CEF#0136/CEF HAM#23 ~ CVC#0004

years ago: when i was a young lad,my older nephew came to visit and he called me a skillet licker, when i got into cb i remembered that and thought it would be a good handle. 1516 comes from a membership # in a mud duck club that i was a member of. i also used the handle # 1 due to an incident at a factory that i worked at,the plant manager and my foreman brought a steam iron to me to fix one that they tore apart and could,nt get back together, so they started to call me # 1 they were a little suprised when i brought it back and working moderator1516 cef#0139/cvc#0012 ham#0147-ki4kxl aka:skilletlicker

When I first got started in CB I went by Big Wally (6'2" 235)I was in my 20's and drilled wells. Later I went to work PT with a metal magician and then took the skills I learned from him and went to work in general aviation as a metal mechanic/template maker. Part of the job required I work with Power Presses that ranged from 25 ton to 500,000 ton range. Never ever had one, most of the ones around here sounded rather funny so I just could not bring myself to use one,I just go by Bob,everyone knows me.It could also have something to do with being a ham, never really saw the need to have one. Handles were originally used back in the day to keep from using your call sign when shooting skip so it would make it harder for the FCC to track you down, after all years ago it was illegal to work skip on CB. Just Bob Robert L. Spicer The days of radio are just beginning!

I like my handle okay, but I like Lon's especially because my family and I are fond of fishing, especially for catfish. Our favorites are the Big Blue cats!! We, however, use big open face spinning reels because the closed ones make me swear too much. Love Ya Lon! My handle started as "Coupling Nut" because, well, me and my co-workers manufacture RF and Microwave cable assemblies. So, you have the end of the coax in your hand, stick it to the back of the radio and the last part of the "interface" is the thing you have to thread onto the jack on the equipment. This is called a "coupling nut". Well, I mistakenly thought that would make a cool handle. Turns out, it has too many syllables, according to all of my beloved radio friends. So they shortened it to "C-nut" in the beginning. The first part "C" became confused with "Z" so my handle evolved to become "Z-nut" and that is what stuck. Merry Christmas! Love, Znut |

I got mine because when I worked in a surplus warehouse I was always working on computers for teachers and kept our network up and running and managed a real quirky inventory program. One day my supervisor called me a Wile E. Coyote, the genius, which stuck like glue for many years. So, thats where I took my handle from. Manville maniac, I grew up in a old mill village called manville. growing up i was a lil on the SICK side. i was the kid that would do anythng for any reason. Always loved to box and got the handle at a local gym from a trainer he said i was his "lil nut case the manville maniac" It stuck and till this day people from my child hood still call me that. Now golden screw driver came about when i meet my wife, she never talked on a radio or even see one(sheltered lol)about a year into our relation ship she wanted to get me a gag gift needless to say it was a gold plated philips screw driver for my "fixin bench". And that year we thew a new years eve party with all of our freinds from the radio and all it took was one look at the screwdriver and walla i became the Golden Screw Driver. It started as a drunkin joke that stuck. 421 GOLDEN SCREW DRIVER CEF#0995 NORTH-EAST CEF NET CONTROLLER Channel 13 / 27.115 AM/LSB

Here goes a long story, lol My original Cb handle my dad gave me, he was into radio a little but not a fanatic like myself, his handle was red, so he called me little red, but after some growing I became bigger than dad lol so that handle didn't stick, In Highschool playing football the Sr's at that time, I was a sophmore started calling me AKA Starvakuda 454 (my real name is marvin) then it slowly started to break down, they found out I like to fish so it became Barkuda454, after changing the numbers to 318 (because 318 is my favorite dodge engine) I became Barakuda318, I use just barakuda for handle and 318 for dx'ing... 73's Barakuda318

My grandpaws handle was flying cloud and when he died when i was about 2 or 3 no one else was intersted in cb but my uncle.then later in life he passed away. befor he passed away i started getting intersted in them and went by sod buster like in the song convoy. later i got my first base station it was my grandpaws a realstic navaho trc-57 with am and ssb it had his old license number scribed in the radio and it came with a civil defence pin where my grandpaw help start up the fire and rescue in my county but back then it was called the civil defence. and i also got my uncles sonar fs 2340 and it had his license number scribed in the back of it as well. so in memory of my papaw who i did not get a chance to know well before he died i took up his handle. i guess u could say it is so his memory could live on.but i just know me and him both loved to fish and i wish he was still around so me and him could talk on the cb together. |

When I was a kid, I went by Sneaky Snake. Through my teens I went by lowrider because I rode a motorcycle. My junior year of high school, my cb friends got together one night and decided to dub me "The Brass Monkey" and I have kept it ever since. That was about the time the Beastie Boys came out with the song. James The Brass Monkey 2SF999 PW589

Well my grandfather being the Mel Tillis fan he was, I drank coke alot back in the day and I was running around with a cowboy hat on so Coca Cola Cowboy was hung on me. Years later making the 35 mile drive to work every morning in Jacksonville FL, talking to the truck drivers, I was going by Rebel, trying to be a badass LOL well the truck drivers kept asking me "why Rebel? You sound more like a Yankeeboy" (I am actually from MI) three years of making that drive, it just stuck. Thinking about changing it to Gunsmoke though, in honor of an old old friend that has past away. |

Still use that today. when people ask why Kangaroo, I tell them because I bounce around from town to town. And that is what I do in my business travels. when i was about 14 i got into radio cause my dad used 2 drive a truck. I took his handle of silver streak but some how it didnt feel right so i started looking 4 another. at the time there werent a lot of people on the air in my neck of the woods except an old couple who had a base setup that i would talk 2 every evening. I live in an area where severe weather is a part of life and i was constantly aware of the weather and would give the older couple daily weather reports that i had gotten from the radio tv and scanner. one night while talking I told them I was looking for my own handle and they suggested I go by weatherman because of my constant vigil on the weather. it stuck and until this day I havent heard anyone else use it. may they rest in peace. 73s Peaches and Nutbuster! |
