i have a small 100 watt amp in my truck. It is in in line with a maxon 40 channel, 18 ft of coax, and 102" whip. 3' jumper from radio to amp.Whip half way back on bed rail.
problem: amp works fine from ch 9-40 but chatters from ch 8-1 and will not kick in.
Is it a weak relay, the cold weather or ?
I would greatly appreciate any help.

Try a 6' jumper between radio and box,put a 6"spring on bottom of antenna if you don't already have one. BIGBOB .

Sounds like a matching problem on the lower channels. I had this problem once, and discovered a higher SWR on the low channels. Adjusted the antenna and changed the jumper length and it disappeared.

Changing the 3 ft jumper to a 6 ft jumper did the
trick. Thanks again.
