I think it's interesting how each state or city all over the country and even the world has their own special nicknames. Seems like most of the ones I know I learned over the cb while listening to skip. I know many but not half of all the nicknames we use to identify our locations while talking DX to each other. If any members would like to list the nicknames of their hometown and state please do so! I have heard so many I have forgotten most. Starting with my state of Indiana it is commonly refered to as "The Cornfield". I have also heard Indiana refered to as "The Crossroads of America" My home town of Indianapolis has several nicknames: Naptown The Circle City Racecar City Stoplight City (could be any other city in America btw} Just to name a few of the more common. So how about your QTH, 10-20, and backyard fellas? KEEP IT REAL! Kenny cef491(27.115lsb) 2sf491(27.555usb) Indiana

Yes kentucky is know as "The Blue Grass State" but there is another saying "Kentucky The Home Of Fast Horses Wild Women And Good Whiskey". Ever heard of a place in Kentucky called Heights Run Kentucky located between Cloverport and Hardesnburg Kentucky. Nothing left there but a old church now. Heres a few names of towns here: Cowcreek Ky, Salt Lick Ky, Druid Hills, KY, Goose Creek, KY, Lynch, KY, and no theres not a Happy Hollow Ky to my knowledge. |

Michigan is called the Wolverine State. Trying to figure out why as it was proved that Mi DOES NOT have wolverines, we have badgers instead...lol I actually live in Walhalla but everyone one around here calls it Hogwaller. Walhalla is SO small that we only have a Post office and a Bar! But we have to get our mail delivered from a town called Fountain 6 miles away and have that town as our mailing address as we don't have a mail carrier lol Allen CEF565/Ham243 CVC#38 13AM/LSB N.E. those who have my ham QSL card or know my ham call can look up the name of my town....it is named after a very famous edible bit of seafood-which i detest(how can you eat anything that swims in its own toilet )-but was actually 'farmed' 2 towns over. and, it is just a wee bit larger then CEF565's town, in that we have 2 bars! also 3 delis, 2 'high end' restaurants, a 'beach cafe', a roadside 'beach grill', 1 pizzeria, 1 chinese restaurant, 1 thai restaurant, a mexican restaurant, a supermarket & a burger king. you can walk from the east end to the west end in about 7 or 8 minutes, north to south ends in 10, then take a swim in 'the great south bay' to help eliminate some of the calories you added stopping at all of our food sources. |

Washington State is the "Evergreen State". Most people assume it's because of the trees, but it should be associated with moss. Seattle is known as the "Emerald City", Tacoma is the "City of Destiny"... no comment. And, if you have ever wondered why people seem strange from this area, it's because of years, and years of endless "Chinese water torture" (rain). |

Here in Virginia it is officially known as the “Commonwealth” State but the Truckers a long time ago nicknamed it the “Communist” State, and the state motto is “Virginia is for Lovers”. TomCat in VA CEF217

Rhode Island, No it isnt an island and no it is not part of New York. 40 miles wide 60 mile long. "offically the ocean state" for the reason of having more swimable shole line than any other state. And the milage is including block island witch is an island. I currently live in woonsocket or know to the locals as"lil veitman" used to be called "frog land" back when it was the textile capital of the world, and then there is NEWPORT ,kennedy houses all historical houses, the NEWPORT FILM FESTIVLE. but hey I call it home the golden screw driver on the golden build radio
