Brain, I would imagine the stock mic works just fine but if your like me you want to remove the cheap looking thing for something much nicer.
Some might say power mic but hey that radio has plenty of modulation and if you plan to run an amp then whats the use. Might be me but I really cannot tell what good a power mic does besides being able to hold the mic at arms length and transmitting noise with your voice. Valueable power is being wasted on noise when you want only voice to be heard. Not a big deal locally down the street but it will matter when you try to make that long distace ground wave and your voice just fades into the noise floor and all your DX contact knows is that someone is out there.
I really like the Astatic 636L noise canceling mic. Thats the one I would try. My second choice would be the Road King 56. My third choice is the CDL 56. All 3 noise canceling All 3 very good mics. The Astatic is a little bit more noise canceling than the other 2 so its just a little bit quieter. You have to press them against your mouth when you talk to get full modulation.
my 2 cents worth of personal opinion
