I'm moving my radio equipment into the room upstairs that has the tower outside the window. I will have alot of excess coax after doing so. Is it OK to coil it up or does it cause some kind of RF choke? Or should I cut it and reattach the end? I hate to cut perfectly good coax lol. |

You can coil it up with no problems in most cases. There are certain antennas that need a coil(rf choke) to isolate the antenna from the coax. The coax can become part of the antenna.Case in point.A eagle DX6 antenna needs a coil under the antenna or the coax lenth becomes part of the antenna.Extra coax length only effects line loss as a general rule. |

Extra lined length can give you incorrect SWR readings too. Take alook at the article that deals with Coax Myths - it might answer a few more questions for you too. |

Thats true. extra Coax length wont change swr,s but it can cause your swr meter to show false readings. Its called the apparent swr reading. If you need to set your swr,s do it by setting the antenna itself. To be as accurate as possible check the swrs at the antenna itself. |
