Look for the reverse polarity diode and change it? Lets hope for the best! Jeeze...things not looking good for you for your first post! Most of us make it to at least our 50th post before we need tech advice! Just kidding! Welcome to the forum! Hank CEF559 |

Find a tech and let them look at it. It may not be as bad as you think. I got my old Super Star wires crossed up and I just had to replace a diode. Yours sounds like it may be a little more than a diode, but I don't know how the radio is wired inside so I can't tell you too much. Just stay calm though, I know how it is when your radio dies, it's like a part of ya dies too. You never know though something else may come your way and if your lucky it'll be a Magnum S9. Oklahoma should have a tech somewhere, I know there are some big radios there, talked to a few of them. Good Luck! WR |

I would think that if the lights are coming on then the protection diode wouldn't be the issue. That should stop all power from reaching the actually radio and pop the fuse. I can set you on a S9...I'm tired of mine. If it's not doing anything else like a display or something, unless you have the know-how to hunt the problem down and test things the right way, yes get a tech man. And I feel for you, sorry to hear of your loss. |

Chop, You can send that S9 down to me, I'm tired of trying to connive my way to a new radio with my wife. Let me know if you need the address. WR |

Look for burned through pc traces. If it was the protection diode it would blow fuses as there would be a direct short from -to+.Of course the protection could also be burned open but in that case it would harm nothing. |

Will do 852. I also feel sorry for you too if you mess with a dump truck...they are like having a new born baby. I know mine is or atleast the job that goes along with them is. Maybe you should start with D104 and D105 and check them. C310 and C322 could most likely have suffered from this as well and it might be a good idea to replace them unless you have a way to test them properly. You can use a voltmeter to test capacitors to see if they are charging but you can NOT test them to see if their farad rating is being exceeded or what. Q31 follows and is the 2SB754. My schematic isn't real clear and I don't have it printed out. But there is a PCB for the display and the actual radio itself. If the display is lighting up but no display (numbers etc) then sounds like you have a PCB for the display problem. Try keying the radio and seeing if you get any reading on a wattmeter and what it is if any. Your radio may actually be working and the problem could be in the display PCB only. Then we can go from there and see if we can trace it down. I'll keep a raincheck slip for you on my S9. Incase I miss the B-day...happy birthday 852. Chop |

Yeah Dumptrucking ain't easy, but someones gotta do it. Luckily I don't have to fool with the dirt and various things, all we haul is Asphalt, Sand and Stone. And besides without it how would I afford my toys. Thomas "852" CEF750 in the 2001 T800 KW |

toad, you say that the radio now lights up. what does not work? do you have a display? do you have transmit? modulation? definitely look for burnt foil traces, and look for a black diode near the power connector. scrape at it to see if its charred. no fuse in the positive lead? this can be a very expensive lesson to learn. matt |
