I have 2 of these radios doing the same thing. I can put them on a channel and key it up. It will stay on the channel I key up on, then go to whatever channel the fixed switch is on (6, 19, 21) Driving me nuts.....
They have both been converted. Anyone know what I should be looking for (other than 2 new radios!!!) Any info would be great. Thanks.

ive never operated this radio, but from the fact that you have two radios exhibiting the exact same phenomenon, i would say that this is a PLL issue, and may just be the reason that they stopped manufacturing this radio.
just a guess.
i will look some more and see if i can find someone else who has had this problem.
good luck,
matt

ok, one quick thing to check.

you are making sure that the +10khz switch is in the off position, right?

by the layout of the controls, it can look a bit confusing, but the switch has three positions.
(FIXED/ OFF/ +10KHZ)

make sure this switch is in the OFF position. the one in the middle.
good luck,
matt

Yeah. I've tried everything. Like I said, I can put it on a channel and key it up. It will transmit on that channel. When I let go of the button, it stays on the channel for about 2 seconds, then goes back to the fixed one. Incidently, the fixed switch works. If I put it on 6, it will go back to 6. 19 and 21 the same thing. That is why I thought it had something to do with the channel selector or something mounted on that board. I have disconnected the switch that controls the fixed channels from the board. Nothing. I hit all the solder joints thinking there was a cold one somewhere, but to no avail....I will get it eventually. Thanks for the help. Bill

what im thinking is that maybe when the "fixed" switch is switched to OFF, that it may not really be OFF. meaning either a bad/dirty switch or a bad switching transistor somewhere.
although, since its happening in two radios, that seems kinda unlikely.

does it do this when the switch is put into the +10khz position?
maybe try some contact cleaner, or rosonol lighter fluid, (not WD-40!) in the switch, and flip it back and forth rapidly for a few seconds.
best of luck to ya,
matt

Ok. Checked the switch. Cleaned the switch. Same thing. Since I have 2 of these radios, I pulled the whole channel selector board from one and put it into the other. (Second radio flips back and forth between the channel I select and the fixed channel. When I first tried it, it would do the same thing as the first one) That didn't help. Gotta be somewhere on the main board but where?????? I am gonna get it eventually!:-)

Wow. My advice finally pays off. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. While checking the radio over now that I have a clear head (because I am not frustrated!!!) I find out it has a pushable knob that says DW. A quick check of the manual and viola! The radio has a "Dual watch" feature meaning you can monitor 6, 19, 21, while talking on another channel. Who knew?!!! I am the smart. s-m-r-t, I mean s-m-a-r-t!!!!
