Spoke with Sam and he said it was probly lightning strike that caused it. The heat caused the face to fall off the cold weather stop's it from reciving correctly HUMMMMMMM!. Got a RMA number with no problem and they want me to send it to california on my dime, even though the thing fell apart in a non-moving truck in less than 3 weeks of siting there, I am very unimpressed with the radio now and will not get another anytime soon. i am cunfused they say ENGINEERED FOR THE AMERICAN ROAD BUT FALL APART NO MORE MAGIES AT MY HOUSE. Well i can say this it will be the coolest book end i will ever have. AND ORDERING A NEW 2970 AS I TYPE THIS. ANYONE NEED 257 PARTS?????????? 421 GOLDEN SCREW DRIVER CEF#0995 NORTH-EAST CEF NET CONTROLLER Channel 13 / 27.115 AM/LSB

If It were me I would send it in (Sam has been known to repair his products for customers at no charge). Then if you don't want it get rid of it! |

You might check with your insurance company to see if there is any comprehensive coverage for lightning damage. I lost a really great SBE radio years ago due to a nearby strike. It can happen to any transceiver no matter what the brand name. |

You should carry ham radio insurance, I do and it takes care of things like that with my $50 deductible, the magnum 257 is really a 10 meter radio in the first place. CEF 795 73 REVPO/DOCTOR/CEF 795 Wavin a hand from the cornfields of INDIANA

The magnum is by far a better radio. I have both a 2970 and a 2970DX and also a Magnum 257HP. If someone came in and told me I could keep one radio but the others had to go, I'd keep the magnum. Magnum has better receive and far better reports on xmit. tony/n5jva/cef 259 |
