How far away should I have my VHF Marine antenna away from CB antenna?

Wildrat,
As far a possible.
If you have your CB Antenna on the roof, mount the Marine antenna on the rear bumper.
If your CB Antenna is on your Left (Drivers) side of the rear bumper mount your Marine Antenna on the Right (Passenger) side.

If you are in the search and rescue business I suppose... I am sure Wildrat knows it is illegal to use Marine VHF in an auto for any other purpose.
Rat,
If you use a 1/4 wave Motorola type VHF antenna, it can be on the roof with the CB antenna, no problem. If you use one of the 8 foot long fiberglass types intended for boats, then you might want to get it as far from the CB antenna as possible. |

Roger, this is a old post, November last year. Thank You as always Tech833 for the info. I did not put the antenna on the Jeep. rldrake I put the antenna on my tower. I fish 40-60 miles, sometimes more out in the Gulf of Mexico, as do many other people where I live. If your wanting to know why I monitor my marine radio from time to time, think about it. We have thousands of people who have never captained a boat coming down here buying boats and then heading out in the Gulf the next day. Some of these people don't know one end of the boat from the other. Some of these end of dead. Some of them end up on Coast Guard helicopters because some low - life CB'er like myself monitoring their marine VHF radio heard their call for help and called for help on a PHONE and gave the authorities enough info to save someones LIFE that was stranded out their in the Gulf alone in the dark. drake you seem like you may be somewhat intelligent but from viewing your post you seem like you think your some kind of uppity up that thinks he's just a little better than others because he knows a few technical terms and phrases out of a book . What I would suggest is just read our post, help where you can, and maybe just mind your own business when it comes to what others may or may not be doing legally or otherwise. We (members of the forum)are out here to have fun with radio, learn, and help each other, 10-4

Hey, 10 fer for sure there good buddy, I think it is wonderful that there are CBers down there on the Gulf, with much taller towers than the Coast Guard stations have evidently, that are handling distress traffic from the ships at sea. Must go now...have some more books to read on "technical terms and phrases".

Minimum advised distance is 1/4 wav at the higher frequency but generally the further the better. |
