Hi my Step dad have the 2000 gtl base, after spending some time looking for problems with broken wires etc, we still cant find out what's up the radio transmits and recieves normal, but there is hardly any sound coming from the speaker, we have tried, 1 amd 2 an if we set to p/a it comes trough fine the audio that is, we can bearly hear any sound from the speaker and r/f signal appear norm as well as input, I was told this was a problem something to do with the mic gain, if we ajust the vol button it makes no differance and no the squelch isnt on, any Idea's would greatly appreciated!! Thank You Silver Eagle Don VanEck |

Did you try an external speaker? Be sure that the speaker in the radio is not bad. Its simple fix cause you say the radio is transmitting and recieving fine and you do get PA audio, Try a different mic that you know works. Check the mic jack on the radio for correct wiring. Check the ext.speaker and PA jacks in the back very closely for any shorts cause that may just be where your problem is. Work the switches on the radio and inspect them for any dust or debris that can get in there. If the radio has ever been recieving a very strong nearby signal then check the front end recieve transistor and protection diode. good luck |

just as something to check, here are the voltages for the audio chip (IC6 TA7222AP) pin 1 is toward the front of the radio. 1- 13.53 2- 6.51 3- 0 4- 0 5- 0 6- 1.15 7- 0 8- 0 9- 6.76 10- 12.79 although you want to make sure the audio chip is working properly, there are some electrolytic caps on the board that will kill the receive audio. i will try to find out which ones they are. does raising the volume control have any effect? does the volume stay constant no matter how you adjust it? do incoming signals register as strong signals on the S-meter but dont come through with any sound? details are great!!! matt |

More than likely you have a bad electrolytic cap in the final areas of the audio chain before the speaker. It's a simple fix, but I don't have a schematic in front of me right now to tell you exactly which cap. |

Hi everyone, yes tried anouther mike, the present one is a silvereagle, took it apart checked for broken wires and frozen, relay's nothing, did a visual on all the board and back connections, when I put it on p/a squeal's becouse of the power mike, if I turn the mike gain down it works well, volume control is a standard 3 wire thought about putting a new on in but dont think thats it, yes if you put you ear up to the speaker you can hear the audio but very low, no matter what the setting on the volume control, if we key down the mobile I have in the truck peg's out the signal meter, and when I key up you can see it modulate, thank you for any help, Don donvaneck@aol.com |

im leaning towards a bad electrolytic cap. if you can narrow it down so that you know the problem has to be inside the radio, then thats where i would start looking. be careful keying up that mobile so close to the base antenna. pegging the needle is not a good thing. if you blow out the front end of the 2000 now, you will be really confused. good luck, matt |

I had a similar problem.Tried replacing c186 and all that...What the problem was....was the headphone jack...I stuck a plug in it and moved it around and the volume was fine.Just a dirty contact.Easy enough to try.Good luck Randy |
