I want to start off by saying that at one time back in the late 90's I would have been one responding to this post. I once ran a RCI2950 with a Texas Star DX500V watt linear (really enjoyed lighting up fluorescent light bulbs and walking away) and could answer all of the tough questions. As time has gone on I have obviously forgotten all of the technical things that are important. I am moving to Alaska dragging an RV and would really like to get re-involved in the radio community.
Like I stated I haven't forgotten everything but any tips will be greatly appreciated.
What I still have and want to start with again:
-Texas Ranger 696M (Sadly sold the RCI2950 and Texas Star DX500V which was peaked and tuned...like an idiot)
-Decent SWR meter

I remember using Mini8 cable which I see is still avialable.
I also can't use the 102" whip anymore
I drive a Ford F-150 4x4 crew cab now and would like recommended help on installation areas/ideas as well.
Thanks again
JB

well first off id like to say welcome to
the fourm. only thing technical thing that
has changed is on some new radio they use
surface mount technlogy or smt.all other principles still work today as they did many
years ago for you.that 696 base is a great radio
KEEP IT theres not many cb bases anymore.
for the truck install id say try a workman
single coil antenna mounted on roof. theres a
nice review on the fourm here this antenna get
decent remarks.as for coax id dith the mini8
and get either rg213 or low loss altelico 400
both advailable from coppers.i hoped i helped ya out post back if ya got more questions
