Personally never owned a 2950 DX or a S9,and from what I understand, Cobra really messed up with the 150 and 200. I think Cobra should halt production on these till they can get it right. Don't get me wrong, I've had several Cobra CBs over the yrs and they were all good radios. But, for some reason, Cobra can't build a 10 meter rig worth a hill of beans. My .02... |

I thought the S-9 outperformed all the other mobile radios? Why the 2950 dx over the S-9? mikefromms |

'Did I mention that I HATE and DO NOT USE: Roger Beeps, Echo, AMT, Round Meters and Talkback?'-i HATE the same, except the meter, looks-wise. while driving, i can't see/don't look at the meter on the radio anyway, so its shape is of no concern to me. i NEED to be able to HEAR who i'm talking to, that's all that matters. again, after using my ar3500 mobile for many years, i do 'prefer' the 'driving-friendly' CB-like set-up of the S9...even though my grant XL is still in the mobile . the gen'l lee has no SSB, so for me, it would not be in the mix. the 2950 is a 30 watt radio, S9 a 45 watt radio & 200 a 100 watt radio-again, apples to oranges. have not had/seen enough 200's perform correctly to purchase a new one(though i'm working on a dead/used one for 'experimental' purposes. my S9 outhears all 2950/2970/2990/2995's i have access to, & rcv is more important TO ME as i can always 'ADD POWER' elsewhere . i am personally awaiting the 175 watt S9's & have even sent 1 of my davemades out, to be prepped for this new S9. what you do to the radio prior to installation is important too. i have HEARD 808 on more then a few different radios, as well as him hearing me on more then a few too. i'm sure neither one of us can say that the other has ever sounded 'crummy' on any radio. and that's gotta be a 700 mile distance. 808 does not 'butcher' his radios, & my modding is from mild to wild. i can say the same with vanillagorilla, & that is a more local 30 miles. |

I like the 2950DX although it is a little lacking in the channel rejection department. My TRC-451 beats it in that dept. hands down. But anyway 2950 30-watt radio from above post??? How and why. Let it idle and add a box. |

Hard to beat audio on AM with the Lee when tuned right.RX may not be as " quiet " as others mentioned BUT still hears well. |

A 2950dx is a 12 and 10 meter HAM radio ..... That said it does splits for repeaters and sound ok on fm. It's not a bad AM or SSB radio and the " SPLATTER " problem can be fixed with a channelguard but being a SMT radio there a bit tricky to install. Now like most rangers it's a bit large but thats a + if you want room to add a board or tinker inside. I have had both a 2950 and 2950DX and since im a FM guy they are not very good as FM radios ... the HTX-10/MAG-257 wins hands down on fm ..... On the 2950 you can replace the RF stage with a 2sc2999 and it helps it greatly also some older ones replacing the NB diodes helps too. Bruce |
