Broadband is so much better. Even my parents have 3Mbps DSL it is smokin fast!! Onwards with technology. Makes you wonder what they'll have in 10 or 20 years though? DAN Dan

No use for DSL here not enough bandwidth for all the computers here....10 Meg Cable is barely enough! But hey with only one or two computer on a network it has got to be a great step up from the ancient dial-up! Outkast CEF 650

What type of DSL do most folks use, just wondering , I used to have a cable modem but since I moved over a year ago I now have my service through the phone company and it is high speed, seems just as fast as with cable. VE1CZ/CEF451 Robert L. Spicer The days of radio are just beginning!

Works great until the kids smash the download limit and we get throttled back to dialup speed! The two boys have discovered online games so for about 2-3 weeks out of the month we are effectively on dialup. Yep only takes about a week for them to burn through 1000mb. The biggest problem with DSL is that you only get the speed promised if you are reasonably close to the Switch Building. After about 3 miles DSL slows down. As for DSL not having enough bandwidth, my old employer used dsl and we had a dozen computers on line - never seemed to suffer from a badnwidth problem - only a gopher that chewed through a cable.. The company i'm with has all different plans designed to suit different users. They start at 400mb per month for about $20 mainly for people that just send the odd e-mail and have a bit of a poke around on ebay etc. Ours is $29.95 a month for 1000mb. Full blister costs about $70 a month. We had no drama with 1000mb until the likes of Diablo, Lord of the Rings, and Runescape were dicovered by the two teenage sons. They chew it up in about a week, whereas Deb and I never got wound back when it was just us pair going on line. I did think about upping the package but then the boys would never be off the computer so our only salvation is when we get throttled back they lose interest in the games. One of those situations where you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. CEFFFCEF Bob CEF703/CVC26 269 Hunter Valley 27.355 lsb.

The fastest DSL around here is about 512kbps and with four computers DL almost constantly it becomes quite slow...I am waiting for T1 connections to come down a bit more in price and then I will be switching to that! But for the average browser I dont see any problem with have that many people on that kind of connection. Outkast CEF 650

Thanks for the warning Allen. I'm keeping my eye on the gaming here. I've started a whinge session already as i deleted a few of their games. They had that much on the computer that defragmenter wouldn't even run, so out some went. I never even got to enjoy DSL this month...they chewed the limit before i even got a go at it! Israel that is nasty. Some of the Canadian brothers to the north still have to do the dial up as their so called high speed has not made it to the outlying areas of cbilization yet.... Streaky CEF #805 CVC #98

Just did mine too: 5360kb/s Downloading 547kb/s Uploading Not nearly what the advertised 10Mb/s speed is but then again I am using wireless on the laptop to check it which probably isnt the best way to do it. Also others are DL music and what not right now so that affects it a bit too. Anyways those just getting DSL or Cable welcome to the world of HighSpeed!!! Its kinda like stepping up to the world of HAM from C.B.! Hope you all enjoy that newly found bandwidth! Outkast CEF 650

Just to add to what Mark has said it really depends on what server is holding the information that you are downloading. If Coppers server is in Louisville, KY and you are also there your time to open a page on the Copper site would be much faster than say if you were in Seattle, WA. Thats where ping time comes into play. I get a kick out of our cable company here they advertise a 10 Megabyte connection....but in all reality it is only a 10 Megabit connection....many people confuse these two. And the cable company's rely on that. 10 Megabits = 1 Megabyte or 10Mb/s = 1MB/s oh the truth in advertising guys would love that. LOL Outkast CEF 650
