Those lightning arrestor 259 connectors that Copper sells. Male one end, Female other end, and then a terminal on the case of the connector. Do I use just one of thes on each end of a jumper, antenna wire to ground the shield, or do I need to put one on each end of my wires. Exceptfor the Coax from the antenna which will get the shield grounded through the polyphaser?

IfI need one on both ends then Iwill need to order more or just solder the ground wire to the connector, the purchased ones just make the job quicker/neater.

Also what size wire to ground should I use on these connectors. 10/12 stranded or what. I have 4 ga. solid copper which I will use to go from the buss to the grnd. rod.

I put mine at the antenna feed point then ran 10g solid to the ground spike and soldered it together. I don't think you need to put one at the radio end..hopefully you'll never need it there if the first one works! :-)

1) The antenna will be on the polyphaser.
2) Next piece of coax I'm going to call this a jumper or lead in to the amp, I was going to put one of them on the amp end of the coax.
3) Next coax from amp to TVI filter I was going to put one on that piece.
4)TVI will be connected to radio with a barrell connector.

Does that sound good ?

Wildrat,

If you install the Lightning Arrestor's you would only use one of them on each piece of coax running from each antenna.

With your Coax from your Antenna going to the Polyphaser and the Polyphaser already being Grounded I cannot see any reason to add anything else in line.

I was kinda thinking about that.... I don't think a lightning arrestor first to take some of the blow of the jolt and THEN let the polyphasor take care of the rest would not be a bad Idea. It appears that the generic arrestor is nothing more than a way to ground the shield of the coax, it couldn't hurt.

With that much energy a large surface area to handle the current would not be all that bad.
