Can a 2 meter mobile or base depending on make be converted or opened up for expanded freq. range? I have heard of 2 meter rigs operating from around 137.000 mhz to around 170.000 mhz. Knowing that this would be a very illegal radio I am just curious. hotwire |

Many can be converted but wouldn't be type accepted for use outside of the radios normal operating area except for MARS/CAP. I have an Icom 2100 in the mobile and found out that it already has the MARS/CAP conversion which allows it to tx continuously from 140 to 150 MHz. Not sure why it came with the mod already done, as I purchased the radio brand new. |

Most 2 meter radios can RX from 136. to 170. out of the box and "Most" can be be mod'ed (simply) to TX & RX from 136. to 170. MHz also. |
