If your radio already has a mic gain can you use a power mic? Would'nt it cause some problems? Like over modalating? |

Hotwire, If your Radio & Power Mic is set/adjusted properly you will have No Problems. We run POWER MICS on about every radio we use with no problems of over modulation. People tend to think they need the power mic cranked wide open and that is what causes problems. A good Power Mic and a Mic Gain control can work well together to give you maximum performance from your radio with No Over modulation / distortation. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN

Yes and no. If your radio has a functioning modulation limiter it won't cause overmodulation because the limiter will prevent it. It will add more and more background noise though. Too much output from the power mic can also cause an audio squeal. That happens when the output from the microphone is so high that the audio circuit is overwhelmed and driven into oscillation. If the modulation limiter is disabled you can bet a power mic will make you splatter. The more gain from the mic the more you'll splatter. Most radios don't need a power microphone. If you close talk the stock mic in a clear and slightly soft voice you'll sound great and there won't be a lot of background noise. |

I'd recommend one with compression, but I don't know of any hand mics currently available that have a compression amplifier. The only reason I'd ever use a power microphone with a mobile is if I could use a compression microphone. Otherwise I don't want a power microphone for a mobile. I'm happy with how my voice sounds on stock microphones. I guess if you wanted to use a microphone that changes the voice responce from a stock microphone the most obvious choice is the Astatic D104M6B. It's got a little too much of a high frequency responce for me, but a lot of people love how they sound. |

Very Easy Choice the DM-452 Hand Mic. Read my Review on the DM-452 Hand Mics and the comments from those who have and are using them. DM-452 REVIEW DM-452 5 Pin DM-452 4 Pin Power Microphones DO NOT cause Overmodulation and Distortion. Improperly Aligned Radios and Improperly Adjusted Power Microphones DO. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN

Is the DM-452 part of the same series of microphones that was marketed by Ranger a few years ago? They had a model EC+3 that had a compression amplifier built into it. I was wondering if that model is still being made but marketed under a different name? |

Racer_x, Not sure as different company is making the DM-452. But it could be the same Manufacturer that made them for Ranger. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |
